The Longest Day

Today marks the summer solstice, the longest day of the year. And, in my neck of the woods, the hottest day of the year so far.

Yes, that’s right. 106°F

Well, the good news is that our power is still on, so the air conditioning is keeping us cool! And, starting tomorrow, the hours of sunlight will start getting, minute-by-minute, shorter.

Unfortunately, after today, the high temperatures will likely remain. I’m keeping my fingers crossed that there won’t be power outages, but if there are, that our whole house generator will kick in, and that the air conditioner will continue to function.

Anyway, Happy Summer Solstice, everyone!

Nice and cool here, at least for now. We’ve only had a few hot days and they weren’t terrible — high 80s, low 90s. But rain has been missing from the agenda.

We haven’t had any rain, either, which doesn’t bode well as we enter wildfire season.

Yeah, thanks, Brian. I prefer winter to summer, especially since it doesn’t get that cold around here in the winter, but it gets brutally hot in the summer.

I always feel that Summer Solstice is a cruel trick. The summer is short enough. Then boom: Mother Nature tells us the slide downhill has begun.

But I’m sorry about the heat, Fandango. Global weirding gets weirder every year.
