Do I Annoy You?

In this post today, blogger Renard Moreau suggested that some readers get annoyed by bloggers who post too often. Renard said that many WordPress bloggers have admitted to him that they would unfollow a blogger who publishes content on their blog numerous times a day. In fact, Renard said that “most WordPress bloggers tend to get highly annoyed whenever they see countless links to blog posts from the same blogger on their WordPress Reader.”

Yikes! I publish anywhere from three to six posts a day. Does that piss you off? Should I cut back to no more than one or two per day? Or is even that too many?

Renard did admit that “retirees that blog on WordPress have a different way of doing things.” I am retired, and as Renard pointed out, retirees “have more time on their hands, which usually results in them publishing at least two blog posts of their own, participating in prompts, and reblogging the blog posts of others daily.”

But if it’s true that people get annoyed by bloggers who post multiple times daily, would the fact that I’m a retiree annoy them less? Will they be less likely to unfollow me because I’m a prolific blogger who is retired and has nothing better to with his life?

Renard added, “In all fairness, each blogger in the blogosphere is entitled to publish content on their blog as often as they like.”

So my question to those of you who follow my blog or who just happened to stumble upon this post is simply this: do I annoy you by publishing multiple posts a day?

Well …. as a cranky old retiree myself (more accurately a bitter and twisted member of the unemployed) most of my posts are actually intended to annoy people. So the best advise I can give you would be to keep up the good work.

HELL NO. Renard is entitled to his opinion. Renard can unfollow anyone he chooses. I would prefer someone (like you) to post whatever and whenever he wants to, and as I go down my feed I can choose titles, images, etc. that catch my attention. What I wouldn’t want is for anyone to feel like I don’t want to read everything they post. It would be physically impossible to do with all of the blogs I follow. I’m reading even less than usual these past few months. Keep doing what you’re doing, Fandango. You are one of the people I depend on to keep posting.

🤨 Hmm. It seems as though you have taken my article’s message out of context.

In regards to a blogger publishing content numerous times a day, I am all for that because it does not bother me.

Yes, I am free to unfollow whomever I desire (I have never unfollowed anyone because they published content on their blog numerous times a day).

In regards to the feeds within the WordPress Reader, I said, “Scrolling all the way down is optional; it is one of those choices that we can ignore or put into action.” That statement was targeted toward the person who becomes highly annoyed whenever they see numerous posts from a single blogger on their WordPress Reader.

Let it be known that I am in no way against anyone for posting numerous times a day.

OK, good to know, Renard. I don’t know you and was only going by what I read in Fandango’s post. I didn’t mean any offense to you personally, just to the idea being presented. My apologies if you took it as a personal insult.

Lol I must admit I use to get annoyed and unfollow people who blogged multiple times a day. After I started this blog I started actually enjoying those peoples blogs and I appreciate how they have alot to say and write about. I find it inspiring and I hope to one day I will be able to have as much to write about like you. I love your blogs and I hope you continue to keep up this beautiful blog journey. Write one man! Lol

Not in the least, but if someone posts that they went out for an ice cream and then writes another post that they did their laundry and then a post that their cat just smiled at them, then I am likely to stop reading their blog.

Yeah, I would stop reading their blog also…but I’d like to see a picture of that smiling cat!

I think it depends on the quality of the posts. I may not read every single post someone I subscribe to posts, but I only subscribe to people who I am interested in. So I am only getting what I ask for anyway.

Thanks, Renard. You’ve made it clear that my frequency of posting doesn’t annoy you. And to be honest, this post of mine in response to yours was a bit tongue-in-cheek.

I have heard that too and not as a comment, but from actual friends who get more than enough email and simply felt overwhelmed. It’s one of the reasons I cut down on the number of times I post. Because if the number of times you post a day (on the average) is more than the number of fingers on one hand? Maybe you really ARE a spammer. When I feel like posting a lot, I write ahead and date things for the future. Which usually works out well because there will be a day when I’m tired or busy or just plain cranky and don’t feel like posting.

Yep. I’m a spammer. No wait. I’m actually a bot! I can understand about people getting overwhelmed by email notifications every time someone they’re following posts something. That’s one of the reasons I have opted out of receiving such email notifications.

I can’t always get to every single post, but when I do I enjoy them =D I don’t understand why people don’t just scroll on by?lol

You can post whenever you feel like posting. I can read posts when I feel inclined to do so and have the time. One need not read every post, there is no reason to get upset about posting frequency. This is a hobby for most of us and we should do it our own way. No guilt if you post a lot, no guilt if I miss reading a few posts here and there. There are more important things to stress about.

There are a few like that. The posts are interesting-ish, too. Last one was photos of fascinating places mostly in India, but when I come onto my notification feed, and every single entry is a post by them…
But four or five posts a day I can handle, and anyway I just skip those which hold no interest. It’s when people seem to want my time *exclusively* that there’s a problem.

Hey No! I love reading posts from each and every blogger on my reading list, no matter how often they post. Reading is my passion. I don’t comment often, though.

No, it doesn’t annoy me. I can read or not read depending on the time I have free and my inclination. I quite admire people who can write several posts in a day. If I do write several posts at a time I usually do as Marilyn does and schedule some for later. There are more days when I don’t have time to post than days that I have time to write multiple posts.

I’m in the same category Fandango. I have my daily 3TC challenge and Today is…. plus response to other challenges. Sometimes I can post 9 items a day depending on what prompts inspire me, so yeah, I guess people get sick of seeing me pop up in their reader. I have cut back recently though and I guess average 5 now. But just because bloggers post loads, doesn’t mean that readers have to read them all! Hope I don’t bore you as I know some people have found my Today is posts dull which is why I either keep them short now or throw in something else.

No. But I don’t allow emails ~ I read posts in my reader. I don’t always read them all, and I may skip some posts of a prolific writer to make sure I give attention to others who post less frequently. I think the problem is entirely about emails…

I, too, turned off email notifications for posts. I have a unique email address for my blog and I hardly ever check it. So I didn’t see the point.

I don’t unfollow if there are too many posts. It depends on my mood. If I am tired I won’t read all of them. I find it difficult to know what to post sometimes because there are so many word prompts I want to take part in, but just don’t have the time.

I follow a lot of blogs, but only a few post more than twice a day. Having said that, because I work full time it’s hard to squeeze reading them all in. I read for 1/2 hour before work, and 1 – 2 hours after work. So occasionally I do get frustrated at the number of posts, but normally they’re enjoyable enough that I don’t mind

I’ve been following your blog for a while through the email feed, and no, not really. I just read and like and/or comment on the posts I find interesting and ignore the ones I don’t! Easy peasy! 🙂

I agree with the consensus here, Fandango: no, your posting frequency doesn’t annoy me. I’m sure that there are those who might be annoyed by it, but there’s nowt so queer as folk.
