First) Change the gun-buying age to 21 with a minimum three month wait while background checks are completed to include psychological red flags, school records of aggressive or abnormal behavior. I’m sick of hearing, “He was always a loner at school, kind of weird, but always very quiet!” BINGO! RED FLAG – PUT IT IN HIS/HER RECORDS. No, it won’t prevent every incident, but it’s a step forward and we need to start taking steps forward. A person has to wait an entire year to get a permanent drivers license at age sixteen. But a few days after his 18th birthday he can walk in to a store a but a military assault weapon? Did the seller even stop to ask him why he was purchasing it? Any red flags there?
SECOND) We do not have an active in-country militia to fight off foreign invaders or prevent a civil war … yet. The general public does not need access to military-like assault weapons, period. They are for use during war-time by our “TRAINED MILITARY MEN AND WOMEN!” Do not argue with me about what constitutes or doesn’t an assault weapon.
Takes these things off the streets and store them somewhere. Then, if we need them we know where they are. Honestly, in this day of possible nuclear extinction, these type guns will be of little to no use anyway.
I think it could be good idea to make a gun applicant wait a full year even if the background check would come back clean in a day. So, apply at 20 (at the earliest) and perhaps get it at 21.

While the FBI told me to call my local police (not the FBI although the FBI did generate a case number) about people scamming my mom, then the police made it clear it wasn’t their thing. While I was living there last summer and fall, to help my mom recover from spinal surgery after an accident, I filed a protection order against a man there. This got me absolutely nowhere.
I just now heard someone point out that it was 19 police officers standing around inside the school with guns doing nothing while actually 19 children were murdered in the classroom(s).
Think about this: There were little kids (not high school students) in the classrooms calling 911 (on third personal phones) while officers loitered on the other side of the goddamned door(s).
Someone pointed out, this evening, that most kids go through active-shooter training in school (as this shooter probably did). Are we training rather, that way, the next shooter how it works?
The exact sequence of events has been tough to pin down, because Uvalde law enforcement officials have given incomplete and contradictory accounts of local officers’ role in stopping the gunman.

There has been an account shared of a little girl survivor from this who feels she’s still not safe — that the bad guy is still coming after her, with no sense of you call for help… because help doesn’t come.

Prior to my going to help my mom, the accident itself had been poorly handled… the reporting of it. I won’t go into all the stupidity (in different aspects), but my mother had been rushed to the hospital in an ambulance — while the officer on the scene wrote down that there were no apparent injuries. (Meanwhile, the fact that she was rushed away meant only the other people had their point of view represented in the official report. And it didn’t even matter enough to the officer that he communicate the actual configuration of the roads properly in his writing and pictorial, which he messed up in multiple ways.)

ST. LOUIS (AP) — A federal judge has ordered St. Louis County to pay $300,000 to two people who sued after police barged into their home with guns drawn and without a warrant in what the court previously deemed a “severe, warrantless intrusion.”
The American Civil Liberties Union of Missouri says the final judgment was entered Thursday against the county, ordering it to pay Jon Luer and Andrea Steinebach for damages stemming from the home intrusion.
The ACLU says Luer and Steinebach were awoken about 3 a.m. on July 10, 2016, to find armed officers in their hallway. The two officers also interrogated the couple’s teenage son over unpaid cab fare and searched his room.
There’s a lot to be e planned. If they try to say police regulations then it’s time to change the regulations and fire ANYONE that could have saved one child. We’re they afraid? Of getting shot? JON ROSENTHAL: They received money from us. They received appropriation from the state – specifically for training, for equipment, for updating the school’s security.
KASTE: And Rosenthal added legislation requiring school police to take standardized active shooter training, which emphasizes confronting the shooter as quickly as possible. Uvalde school district police took that course in March.
ROSENTHAL: Oh, dear Lord. So they literally just did this, and it clearly was not effective training.
KASTE: Though he wonders whether the problem was the training or the people taking it. With investigations ongoing, the department isn’t sharing some key details with the public. One question is gear – did Uvalde school police have door breaching tools so they wouldn’t have to wait for a key? Solomon Cook is president of the Texas School District Police Chiefs’ Association.
SOLOMON COOK: There is no law or mandate on what tools or what devices that they might have.
KASTE: Cook says his school police department in Humble, Texas, has such tools, though he prefers not to disclose where they’re kept.
Federal agents who went to Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas, on Tuesday to confront a gunman who killed 19 children were told by local police to wait and not enter the school — and then decided after about half an hour to ignore that initial guidance and find the shooter, say two senior federal law enforcement officials.
According to the officials, agents from BORTAC, the Customs and Border Protection tactical unit, and ICE’s Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) arrived on the scene between noon and 12:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Local law enforcement asked them to wait, and then instructed HSI agents to help pull children out of the windows.
The BORTAC team, armed with tactical gear, at first did not move toward the gunman. After approximately 30 minutes passed, however, the federal agents opted of their own volition to lead the “stack” of officers inside the school and take down the shooter.

MARTIN KASTE, BYLINE: This kind of school security breakdown was not supposed to happen. At least, the Texas legislature took steps to avoid it. Jon Rosenthal is a state representative from the Houston area.
JON ROSENTHAL: They received money from us. They received appropriation from the state – specifically for training, for equipment, for updating the school’s security.
KASTE: And Rosenthal added legislation requiring school police to take standardized active shooter training, which emphasizes confronting the shooter as quickly as possible. Uvalde school district police took that course in March.
ROSENTHAL: Oh, dear Lord. So they literally just did this, and it clearly was not effective training.
KASTE: Though he wonders whether the problem was the training or the people taking it. With investigations ongoing, the department isn’t sharing some key details with the public. One question is gear – did Uvalde school police have door breaching tools so they wouldn’t have to wait for a key? Solomon Cook is president of the Texas School District Police Chiefs’ Association.
SOLOMON COOK: There is no law or mandate on what tools or what devices that they might have.
KASTE: Cook says his school police department in Humble, Texas, has such tools, though he prefers not to disclose where they’re kept.

Federal agents who went to Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas, on Tuesday to confront a gunman who killed 19 children were told by local police to wait and not enter the school — and then decided after about half an hour to ignore that initial guidance and find the shooter, say two senior federal law enforcement officials.
According to the officials, agents from BORTAC, the Customs and Border Protection tactical unit, and ICE’s Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) arrived on the scene between noon and 12:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Local law enforcement asked them to wait, and then instructed HSI agents to help pull children out of the windows.
The BORTAC team, armed with tactical gear, at first did not move toward the gunman. After approximately 30 minutes passed, however, the federal agents opted of their own volition to lead the “stack” of officers inside the school and take down the shooter.
