As Americans – we fight for the right to kill our children. Because you know unborn fetus matter has more rights in the eyes of many than our living, breathing, cherished WANTED babies!

We should hold the Senate and Congress in chambers until something is done about this tragedy and when they can’t take their Memorial Day vacations, then they may start getting serious.

Major props to Kerr for “making” it political. That’s exactly how we handle policy; the politicians, the ones who have recalcitrantly refused to, should do their actual job.

Marleen – Sadly, “our” politicians and “our” representatives are no longer ours. They represent the desires of the money making/campaign funding big business and corrupt insurance/pharmaceutical companies. In order to stop this run-away train we used to call democracy but is now a power driven, greed filled business with little to no regard for the constituents they are supposed to represent we have to: 1) Put a cap on campaign spending 2) Put a cap on campaign donations 3) All financial/legal and educational records must be made public for every single person that runs for any government office anywhere.

Money talks but lack of money talks louder!!

A hundred percent agree. (I also do hope but am not sure it’s so that unrelenting pressure of shame could move the needle. Sports seems to have done that at times. Come to think of it, “that” has involved money as well; shame or morality doesn’t affect some people.)

As long as our elections are for sale, we aren’t going to see any progress. The interest of the people of this country are lost to the big money interests. You know, if you know history, that’s exactly how Rome went from a Republic to an Empire. Money. It was all about money. It’s ALWAYS all about money.

First) Change the gun-buying age to 21 with a minimum three month wait while background checks are completed to include psychological red flags, school records of aggressive or abnormal behavior. I’m sick of hearing, “He was always a loner at school, kind of weird, but always very quiet!” BINGO! RED FLAG – PUT IT IN HIS/HER RECORDS. No, it won’t prevent every incident, but it’s a step forward and we need to start taking steps forward. A person has to wait an entire year to get a permanent drivers license at age sixteen. But a few days after his 18th birthday he can walk in to a store a but a military assault weapon? Did the seller even stop to ask him why he was purchasing it? Any red flags there?

SECOND) We do not have an active in-country militia to fight off foreign invaders or prevent a civil war … yet. The general public does not need access to military-like assault weapons, period. They are for use during war-time by our “TRAINED MILITARY MEN AND WOMEN!” Do not argue with me about what constitutes or doesn’t an assault weapon.

Takes these things off the streets and store them somewhere. Then, if we need them we know where they are. Honestly, in this day of possible nuclear extinction, these type guns will be of little to no use anyway.

I think it could be good idea to make a gun applicant wait a full year even if the background check would come back clean in a day. So, apply at 20 (at the earliest) and perhaps get it at 21.

The enemy is within us, it’s ourselves. It is us because we are not doing anything about it! Do we even know how to do anything about it? Vote? We can vote but our vote DOES NOT MATTER, and has not mattered for a very long time. Our system is a sham to hoodwink America into believing they – “we” – have sensitive, educated, informed representation in our government.

I do not believe we do, unless … UNLESS – you happen to be one of the big money lobbyist’s, campaign financiers or individuals of such high income you believe the rhetoric our own government feeds us concerning rights, healthcare, education as well as the true and understandable language of the Constitution of the United States.

Additionally, the heading of this blog thread is “When are we going to do something?” I don’t know what “the police” are for. Now we’ve got police standing around in Texas and either doing nothing or controlling parents while a shooter kills their kids. I’m not kidding when I ask what the police are in place to accomplish. I’ve had inexplicable interactions with police. While the FBI told me to call my local police (not the FBI although the FBI did generate a case number) about people scamming my mom, then the police made it clear it wasn’t their thing. While I was living there last summer and fall, to help my mom recover from spinal surgery after an accident, I filed a protection order against a man there. This got me absolutely nowhere.

            ……………

The exact sequence of events has been tough to pin down, because Uvalde law enforcement officials have given incomplete and contradictory accounts of local officers’ role in stopping the gunman.

            …..

… The gunman was inside the school for about an hour before Border Patrol agents arrived on the scene, entered the building and killed him, according to authorities. The New York Times reported Friday that local police officers would not allow the federal agents to enter right away once they arrived.

On Thursday night, Texas Department of Public Safety Lt. Chris Olivarez suggested that some police officers were reluctant to engage the gunman because “they could have been shot.” …

            ………………..

The Border Patrol is who finally DID something.

Texas is so incompetent and heartless,
maybe we should eject them from the union?
I know that’s not fair. The governor is a motherf*cker!

Prior to my going to help my mom, the accident itself had been poorly handled… the reporting of it. I won’t go into all the stupidity (in different aspects), but my mother had been rushed to the hospital in an ambulance — while the officer on the scene wrote down that there were no apparent injuries. (Meanwhile, the fact that she was rushed away meant only the other people had their point of view represented in the official report. And it didn’t even matter enough to the officer that he communicate the actual configuration of the roads properly in his writing and pictorial, which he messed up in multiple ways.)

          Contrast:

          https://fox2now.com/news/judge-orders-st-louis-county-to-pay-300k-for-police-search/

ST. LOUIS (AP) — A federal judge has ordered St. Louis County to pay $300,000 to two people who sued after police barged into their home with guns drawn and without a warrant in what the court previously deemed a “severe, warrantless intrusion.”

The American Civil Liberties Union of Missouri says the final judgment was entered Thursday against the county, ordering it to pay Jon Luer and Andrea Steinebach for damages stemming from the home intrusion.

The ACLU says Luer and Steinebach were awoken about 3 a.m. on July 10, 2016, to find armed officers in their hallway. The two officers also interrogated the couple’s teenage son over unpaid cab fare and searched his room.

There’s a lot to be e planned. If they try to say police regulations then it’s time to change the regulations and fire ANYONE that could have saved one child. We’re they afraid? Of getting shot? Of being fired? Of doing something wrong?! They did something wrong alright, they let people die instead of protecting like they are sworn to do!! I hope that lawsuits abound against the PD as well as the school officials. Schools in my county are always in lock down, parents can’t even get in during school hours! Used to upset me, now I’m so glad I could cry!!

While this article says this man “stopped” people from going in, or specifically stopped nineteen officers (in the hallway) from going in (via an order or decision), we have seen footage of other officers outside stopping parents from going in (even stopping them by physical force).

      https://news.yahoo.com/texas-police-chief-delayed-response-164032912.html

Peter Arredondo, the chief of police for the Uvalde Consolidated Independent School District, completed an eight-hour “Active Shooter Training Mandate” course on Dec. 17, 2021, according to Texas Commission on Law Enforcement public records obtained by NBC News.

He completed the same course the previous year, on Aug. 25, 2020, according to the documents.

Arredondo, who has been the chief since 2020, stopped at least 19 officers from rushing in as the 18-year-old shooter opened fire for at least an hour, killing 19 students and two teachers, officials said Friday.

Peter Arredondo, the school district police chief whose orders reportedly delayed response to the shooting at Robb Elementary School which killed 21, will join the Uvalde City Council, NBC reported.

Arredondo was elected to the Uvalde City Council three weeks ago, earning nearly 70% of the vote, according to the Uvalde Leader-News.

Though the Uvalde Police Department has since changed its story about what happened during the shooting at least 12 times, a Friday statement by Director of Texas Department of Public Safety Steven McCraw indicated Arredondo’s orders delayed police response during the incident.

McCraw said Friday that Arredondo, who oversees the six-officer police force in eight schools as the Chief of Police for the Uvalde Consolidated Independent School District, believed the gunman had “barricaded” himself in a classroom and “there were no more children at risk,” and ordered officers not to engage the suspect.

Meanwhile, the gunman continued firing …

Whether anybody has apologized or not, I’m still interested in the details of factual information and occurrence sequencing.

        https://www.npr.org/2022/06/05/1103144963/texas-funded-police-training-for-active-shooters-but-it-failed-in-uvalde

… As NPR’s Martin Kaste reports, this happened despite a state law meant to improve school police response to active shooters.
MARTIN KASTE, BYLINE: This kind of school security breakdown was not supposed to happen. At least, the Texas legislature took steps to avoid it. Jon Rosenthal is a state representative from the Houston area.
JON ROSENTHAL: They received money from us. They received appropriation from the state – specifically for training, for equipment, for updating the school’s security.
KASTE: And Rosenthal added legislation requiring school police to take standardized active shooter training, which emphasizes confronting the shooter as quickly as possible. Uvalde school district police took that course in March.
ROSENTHAL: Oh, dear Lord. So they literally just did this, and it clearly was not effective training.
KASTE: Though he wonders whether the problem was the training or the people taking it. With investigations ongoing, the department isn’t sharing some key details with the public. One question is gear – did Uvalde school police have door breaching tools so they wouldn’t have to wait for a key? Solomon Cook is president of the Texas School District Police Chiefs’ Association.
SOLOMON COOK: There is no law or mandate on what tools or what devices that they might have.
KASTE: Cook says his school police department in Humble, Texas, has such tools, though he prefers not to disclose where they’re kept.

    https://news.yahoo.com/feds-entered-uvalde-school-kill-230638123.html

Federal agents who went to Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas, on Tuesday to confront a gunman who killed 19 children were told by local police to wait and not enter the school — and then decided after about half an hour to ignore that initial guidance and find the shooter, say two senior federal law enforcement officials.

According to the officials, agents from BORTAC, the Customs and Border Protection tactical unit, and ICE’s Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) arrived on the scene between noon and 12:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Local law enforcement asked them to wait, and then instructed HSI agents to help pull children out of the windows.

The BORTAC team, armed with tactical gear, at first did not move toward the gunman. After approximately 30 minutes passed, however, the federal agents opted of their own volition to lead the “stack” of officers inside the school and take down the shooter.
