“Whatever do you mean Dr Irene?
… when you say it’s a vibrating machine?
That is best used when not in tight jeans,
In case it jiggles loose one’s spleen?
    What kind of machine,
Does that as l am keen…
… to know if you know what l mean?
    Being naïve or green,
To such wonders of has nots and has been?
Can’t help but be curious about a machine,
…. That can create such a bloodied removal scene!
That’s got to be bad for hygiene,
And bordering on the almost obscene!”
    Shouted Frankenstein!

Can we step in, here in our country, and block the machinery of fascism? A couple of my sons, and their dad, were planning, in the spring, to go see a Formula One race. At first, they considered Hungary; was their first choice. However, I noted our historical moment. There is even a city, in Hungary, with an eponymous treaty/agreement name that is being transgressed. They redirected, such that I picked them up from the airport a couple days ago after their trip to Barcelona.

As to the Barcelona trip: I think it matters to share some experiences had there; we can (mistakenly) make assumptions about our own country (and first-person accounts are helpful). My family members who went on this journey stayed in a property rental (rather than a hotel). This involved (unbeknownst to them ahead of time when they booked the private property) their going to a separated area of town for their respite and sleep. When they traveled there by Uber (cab but that’s the way to get a cab there) at night, there was a highly-armed contingent at a certain checkpoint; my family members theorized a curfew (for certain people). Around their quarters, there were Pakistani and Indian restaurants. As it turns out, these were the most enjoyable places to eat (just walking in off the streets in at least the Barcelona area of Spain) if you weren’t clued in by Michelin ratings or recommendations from friends (and they did go to a few a those places scheduled ahead of time as destinations). Long guns were, in fact, drawn. The cab driver (brown) thought he was going to die. The three American passports saved him.

        https://www.washingtonpost.com/nation/2022/08/04/viktor-orban-cpac-dallas-speech/

        ~

Orban did not address his “mixed-race” remarks on Thursday. But he did indirectly defend himself by saying, “Don’t worry, a Christian politician cannot be racist,” and falsely portraying the Nazis as having been anti-Christian. …

        ………

Some at the convention Thursday said they had hoped to hear Orban clarify his remarks on race.

“As a person who, I am mixed race, I’m in a mixed-race relationship, I would like to see what he is going to say to that, put something positive to that,” said Raven Harrison, an unsuccessful primary candidate for Congress from outside Dallas. “I’m not willing to villainize him for that at this point.”

Orban spoke to a half-full but enthusiastic ballroom, receiving a standing ovation and frequent bursts of applause and cheers. “Welcome to Texas!” one attendee shouted when he took the stage. …

        …..

“To stop illegal immigration, we have actually built that wall,” said Orban…

        ~

After Orban’s party won this year’s election, One America News anchor Jack Posobiec celebrated on a podcast hosted by Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk. “He stands for nationalism. He stands for borders,” Posobiec told Kirk. “He stands for sovereign national identity for his people, and standing up for a new type of conservatism where it’s not about tax cuts to corporations; [it’s] about taking the family unit and centering it.”

I don’t believe it for one minute. There is no “not” and instead. But the idea of the family being white and maybe rewarded for being a white family is meant to add to the party of tax cuts for corporations and the richest rich.

Calling on Republicans to send “shock troops” to Washington, Bannon promised the crowd they had an opportunity to “shatter the Democratic party as a national political institution.” He alleged that the party has been overrun by “radical, cultural Marxists” …

Bannon has described himself as Leninist, who is pretty basic to the Soviet Union’s bad and brutal history. Most of his followers (and certainly Trump’s) don’t know what any of it means (and might not be familiar with Bannon’s statements about himself). Lenin is worse than Marx. And Richard Wurmbrandt said (to his prison warden) that Marxism got all it’s good ideas from Christianity.

The following article references when CPAC Republicans (and probably a few “libertarians” who are like them) were going to Hungary in the spring. The other two I shared, today, are both from this August (CPAC meeting currently).

            https://www.theguardian.com/world/2022/may/18/cpac-conference-budapest-hungary-viktor-orban-speaker

Speaking in Buffalo on Tuesday, Joe Biden called [the “Great Replacement” ideology] a “perverse ideology” and “a lie”.

“I call on all Americans to reject the lie. I condemn those who spread the lie for power, political gain and for profit,” Biden said. “We’ve now seen too many times the deadly and destructive violence this ideology unleashes.”

Orbán argued this week that the western world was “committing suicide” through immigration.

“I see the great European population exchange as a suicidal attempt to replace the lack of European, Christian children with adults from other civilizations – migrants,” Orbán declared in a speech to mark the start of his fourth term in office. …

The prime minister’s choice of vocabulary was not accidental, Hungarian political analysts said, but was rather designed to underline the common ties between his Fidesz party, his self-described “illiberal” form of government, and the American visitors arriving in Budapest for the first ever CPAC meeting in Europe.

“I think it is logical that he was signaling to US conservatives because of the upcoming CPAC,” said Zoltán Lakner, a political analyst, and editor-in-chief of the Jelen news outlet. “He is trying to define himself as a global political actor, and at this point, he has kind of achieved that goal.”

            …

“American conservatives are very supportive of us because they can see that we have huge domestic support and because they see Hungary as a conservative safe space,” Balazs Orbán said.

Alongside prominent Fidesz figures will be an array of other European hard-right leaders, speakers will include the former head of the UK Independence party, Nigel Farage, Herbert Kickl, head of Austrian Freedom party, and Santiago Abascal, president of Spain’s Vox party.

The US contingent will include several Republican members of Congress, Donald Trump’s former White House chief of staff, Mark Meadows, and the chairman of the American Conservative Union, Matt Schlapp. Most influential of all, the Fox News talkshow host Tucker Carlson will be addressing the conference, though he – like Meadows and Farage – will be participating virtually.

Carlson has arguably done more than anyone to popularise the “great replacement theory” in the US, promoting it in 400 of his shows, according to an analysis by the New York Times[link].

Carlson has developed particular ties with Orbán, originally through his father, Richard, whose political consultancy, Policy Impact Strategic Communications, has done lobbying work for the Hungarian government. Last year, Carlson broadcast a week’s episodes of his show from Hungary, with a soft interview with Orbán himself…

I think the call to a sense of refuge in owning a gun or arsenal is a distraction from the ruination of the overwhelming majority of the population. (See also, ie, under Fandango’s one-word prompt Machine. People of color are the canaries we should notice. Or, the temptation is, do your best not to be (or appear to be) in that shunted-aside underclass [choose morals, or survival of self first (which some people don’t seem to be able to discern as different)].)

Biden said some decent things, today. For instance, “Exxon made more money than god this year.” (Not sure if he said this year or last quarter or whatever. It’s more like all the time.) He also said it has never been the case that if the middle class is doing well the rich are hurt. I think he might be getting onto the same page as Dr. Reisch, here, or gathering more clarity.

I saw a lead person of The Lincoln Project, last night, who largely is outraged with the current Republican Party, say (within a diatribe against their stupid and dangerous ways) that Mitch McConnell isn’t a threat to democracy (while she was saying a lot of these other Republicans are). [Blocking the elected president from even having hearings for his selection for a Supreme Court justice isn’t a threat to democracy? Not voting to remove Trump from office (a) or censure him in a way that he would not be allowed to run for office again (b) when impeached isn’t a threat to democracy? But skip the second example, just the one (blocking a mild-mannered liberal from an appointment) is enough. Readjust your thinking cap.]

Truthful Tuesday — Guns, Guns, and More Guns

^ That comment section is where I meant to put the post sitting up there in this comment section at 3:31 pm from May 31, 2022. But it fits here, too. It’s not that the topic of guns today is a distraction, regulation being necessary and truly long overdo, but that the sense of discontent and detection of impending loss and corruption is misdirected to channel many people to think of things as solutions that are not solutions. Like nuking a hurricane, shooting out won’t keep them from cheating you or rigging the precariousness.

I think the call to a sense of refuge in owning a gun or arsenal is a distraction from the ruination of the overwhelming majority of the population. (See also, ie, under Fandango’s one-word prompt Machine. …)

Added thought, now: maybe the ideas for individuals counting on artillery is not only for the distraction of it but, as well, all about making sure the likes of Eric Prince can own their parallel military (actual military and hired and outfitted cops) legally (or with the appearance of legality or plausible compliance in the difficulty of proving otherwise) and in the milieu of suppressed scruples and humanity.
