Who Won The Week — 05/22/22

The idea behind Who Won the Week is to give you the opportunity to select who (or what) you think “won” this past week. Your selection can be anyone or anything — politicians, celebrities, athletes, authors, bloggers, your friends or family members, books, movies, TV shows, businesses, organizations, whatever.

This past week my Provocative Question prompt asked for your thoughts about Critical Race Theory (CRT) and White Replacement Theory (WRT). Today, in the Sunday Comics section of my local paper, this Doonsbury strip from Garry Trudeau caught my attention.

It tickled me and it also provided, in a humorous (and perhaps a bit biting) manner, how some white parents feel about Critical Race Theory. So this week’s winner of Who Won the Week is Garry Trudeau.

What about you? Who (or what) do you think won the week?

If you want to participate, write your own post designating who you think won the week and why you think they deserve your nod. Then link back to this post and tag you post with FWWTW.

Garry Trudeau is married to Jane Pauley. They must have interesting dinner conversations.

I’ve actually heard college professors complain that they are not allowed to make their students “uncomfortable.” I always thought that education was SUPPOSED to make you uncomfortable. Isn’t it part of the learning process? Forgetting for a moment the issues of race theory, critical and otherwise, we aren’t teaching our kids how to THINK or make judgements. So if THIS generation ain’t too bright, can you imagine what the NEXT generation will be like?

Yesterday I helped a bright young woman figure out how to take $18.12 from $20.25. The way they teach arithmetic these days may be technically correct in some weird way, but it doesn’t help anyone figure out how much they are spending in the grocery store. I can run the amount in my head and know, to within half a dollar (I round up and down — another thing they don’t teach) how much money it will cost. These youngsters can’t do it.

If they can’t do basic arithmetic, you think they’ll get a grip on critical race theory? They could TEACH it, but how many kids will understand what’s being taught?

The answer is none as long as their parents stop teachers from teaching things that might potentially make their little darlings uncomfortable.

Australias Who Won the Week is our new Prime Minister and a change of government. Got rid of a far right wing nut job (Trump lover). Setting sail for greener pastures and bluer skies 🙂

Having been on the road over a good hunk of the country in the sixties I truly hated the term flyover country because I had met so many wonderful people in parts of the country that , shall we say had, public relations problems. I have started to reevaluate things in the past four years and feel truly sad for all that we’ve lost.
This idiocy about CRT, replacement theory, Roe vs. Wade and MAGA eats at me. I can’t help but wonder in what nursing home some of my gray haired septuagenarian Folkie friends are siting watching this shit on TV, and wondering when things are really going to hit the fan.
As some wag once observed, ” I don’t think this is going to end well.”

I am a septuagenarian, but not yet in a nursing home, fortunately. Yet when I watch TV, I, too, wonder when the shit is really going to hit the fan, and I fear it is closer than we think, Lou.
