This headline should come as no surprise to anyone. Today’s politicians are only interested in maintaining their own power, not in what are the heartfelt interests of their constituents. No sooner after they’ve been elected, their primary focus is on getting re-elected, by hook or by crook. And sadly, it’s been this way for several decades, with politicians ignoring society’s ebb and flow in pursuit of political self-interests.
Written for these daily prompts: The Daily Spur (headline), E.M.’s Random Word Prompt (heartfelt), My Vivid Blog (several), Word of the Day Challenge (ebb), and Ragtag Daily Prompt (flow). Graphic created with The Headlines App.
A blight that overshadows and drives away the few politicians who do represent their constituents. It is one of the many wedges that threatens democracy as we know it.

Democracy “as we know it” in America is already dead, I’m afraid.

Sadly, that’s the truth everywhere.

Ask yourself why they want so badly to be re-elected?
After all, if you lose one job, you get another. What’s the big deal?
And you kinda realise that it is the system that’s wrong, not so much the individuals.

It’s the system that attracts the individuals.

I urge you to pay attention to the politicians who are devoting their lives to public service—there are many of them. I have been listening to Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-MD) reading his book Unthinkable, a wrenching, beautiful memoir blending the aftermath of his beloved, brilliant son’s suicide with the Jan 6 Insurrection. In his despair that he could ever work again, he accepted what he calls Speaker Pelosi’s “lifeline” to him and led the efforts to impeach trump in his Senate trial. He now serves tirelessly on the Jan 6 committee.
He’s one of so many dedicated public servants.
Our democracy is endangered; it will die if we succumb to the belief that it’s already dead. I’m working hard to prevent that from happening. If all who care about it do the same, we can save it. Please watch the Jan 6 Committee hearings beginning Jun 9th. The stakes are too high to surrender to despair.

Yes, there is a handful of members of Congress with scruples and who care about people. But they are the exception, not the rule.

It is all about money and status…. look at how many have been there for years. We really need term limits among other things to help straighten out the mess in Washington DC. The days when politicians worked together is but a distant memory.
