FOWC with Fandango — Conviction

It’s April 20, 2022. Welcome to Fandango’s One-Word Challenge (aka, FOWC). I will be posting each day’s word just after midnight Pacific Time (U.S.).

Today’s word is “conviction.”

Write a post using that word. It can be prose, poetry, fiction, non-fiction. It can be any length. It can be just a picture or a drawing if you want. No holds barred, so to speak.

Once you are done, tag your post with #FOWC and create a pingback to this post if you are on WordPress. Please check to confirm that your pingback is there. If not, please manually add your link in the comments.

And be sure to read the posts of other bloggers who respond to this prompt. Show them some love.

Men never do evil so completely and cheerfully as when they do it from a religious conviction.

Is religious conviction looking around and deciding that you will increase your political power if you pretend to believe certain things? Such as Constantine did. Or Putin now. (These are people I know of; no doubt this has happened in very different societies.) Once the course is embarked upon, and you seek to gain followers who learn your cues (having little awareness of anything spiritual), they are your religion (which has nothing actually to do with God or a creator of the universe except to blaspheme). Yet, when Putin was of and among state atheists, he was already cruel. The lot of ‘em were cheerful torturers. They just didn’t call it religion.
