Bike Hike

My daughter and her significant other are bicycling enthusiasts. In fact, to say they are avid cyclists would be an understatement. Aside from their respective jobs, bicycling is their life. They belong to bicycling clubs in both San Francisco and the East Bay and their bikes are high end touring bikes. And needless to say, like most who are really into cycling, they are both in great shape.

They were in the East Bay today and rode their bikes over to our place. They invited me to go on a bike ride with them, so I fired up my ebike and the three of us hit the road.

We rode for about two hours and approximately 20 miles over hill and dale. We hit both surface streets and parts of the 32 mile Iron Horse Trail for hiking and biking.

Thanks to my ebike’s pedal assist electric motor and, when needed on the steeper grades, my electric throttle, this old septuagenarian was able to keep up with those youngsters.

In fact, it was gratifying to pass them by on some of the more challenging hills while they were working hard to reach the summit. A big win for the old fart baby boomer on his ebike over those cocky millennials. Booyah!

I had a great time. And I love my ebike!

Nothing like getting out for a ride with family. All I could do is dream today as it is snowing here!

What model/make is your ebike? I haven’t looked much into them, but they look very appealing for getting to classes in a timely manner without being drenched in sweat like with my current bike

It’s a Ride1UP model 700. I love it. It’s manufactured in San Diego and shipped to your door, but unless you are an experienced bicycle mechanic, I suggest you have, as I did, a bike shop assemble it.

Awesome, I’ll have to check it out! I have a little experience working on bikes since I’ve had to keep mine in working order while away from home, but I probably should err on the side of caution when there’s electric motors involved
