Who Won The Week — 03/20/22

The idea behind Who Won the Week is to give you the opportunity to select who (or what) you think “won” this past week. Your selection can be anyone or anything — politicians, celebrities, athletes, authors, bloggers, your friends or family members, books, movies, TV shows, businesses, organizations, whatever.

If you want to participate, write your own post designating who you think won the week and why you think they deserve your nod. Then link back to this post and tag you post with FWWTW.

This week’s Who Won the Week Winner is Willie Wilson, an American businessman and politician from Chicago, Illinois. On Thursday, Wilson gave away $200,000 in fuel at ten different gas stations throughout the city of Chicago.

Wilson said at the time that he wished he had offered more money to help even more people. The next day, he announced that he would be doing the giveaway for a second time, this time increasing his donation to a million dollars. Fifty gas stations across the city will participate in the free gas giveaway. Each station has also agreed to lower their gasoline prices during the event to allow more families to benefit from Wilson’s generosity.

“The need among the community is so great,” Wilson said. “Soaring gas prices have caused a hardship for too many of our citizens.”

There was a downside, though, to Wilson’s generosity. The gas giveaway created chaos on the streets around the ten gas stations. Cars lined up for blocks, resulting in gridlock. Authorities expect it to be even worse this coming week when the giveaway is expanded to fifty gas stations and a million dollars.

Anyway, congratulations Willie Wilson for your gift to the drivers of Chicago.

What about you? Who (or what) do you think won the week?

Nice! Probably could have used a little more thought about how to execute the plan, so folks weren’t burning $ and polluting while waiting for the free gas. And the gas stations’ lowering their prices may indicate how big their profit margins are. We know the oil companies are happily keeping their prices high while the price per barrel they pay has dropped.

In my eyes, Vlodymyr Zelensky won the week(s).
