So it’s late in the day and I’m sitting in the back of the courtroom when one of the lawyers says, “I rest my case.” Then the other lawyer says, “The defense rests, your honor, ”and I’m thinking, Wait, what about the rest of the story?
Richard shrugs and says to me, “No rest for the weary, right?”
So I say, “It’s been a long day. I’m going back to the apartment to get some rest.”
And he says, “Aren’t you going out to eat with the rest of us?”
And I say, “Give it a rest, dude. I’ve been with you all day, I don’t want to spend the rest of the night with you clowns as well. I think I’ll just finish up the rest of last night’s pizza that’s in the fridge and then hit the sack.”
“So you’re going to finish the rest of the pizza?” he says. “I thought we were going to share the rest of it for lunch tomorrow.”
“Fine, I’m not that hungry anyway,” I say. “Maybe I’ll just polish off the rest of that pint of ice cream and go to bed.”
“Just don’t finish up the rest of the beers, okay?” Richard says.
Jeremy motions to Richard and me, “Come on, you two, the rest of us are heading to dinner.”
Richard chuckles, points at me, and says to Jeremy, “This guy wants to go home and get his beauty rest. He’s got another big day tomorrow.”
I laugh and say, “Not just tomorrow, guys. The rest of the week is going to be like this.”
“Okay, no worries,” Jeremy says to me. “Enjoy your rest.” Then he looks at Richard and says, “But you’re coming to dinner with the rest of us, aren’t you?”
Richard smiles and says, “Damn right. Nothing could wrest me away from spending the rest of the evening with you wild and crazy guys.”
