FOWC with Fandango — Sponge

FOWC

Welcome to January 3, 2022 and to Fandango’s One-Word Challenge (aka, FOWC). I will be posting each day’s word just after midnight Pacific Time (U.S.).

Today’s word is “sponge.”

Write a post using that word. It can be prose, poetry, fiction, non-fiction. It can be any length. It can be just a picture or a drawing if you want. No holds barred, so to speak.

Once you are done, tag your post with #FOWC and create a pingback to this post if you are on WordPress. Please check to confirm that your pingback is there. If not, please manually add your link in the comments.

And be sure to read the posts of other bloggers who respond to this prompt. You will marvel at their creativity.

I have a concern that many in our interested culture — meaning, as opposed to people who just… need to… do their jobs and tend to their families, individuals (even if they have families) who have time and wherewithal to make an attempt at analyzing what is going on in the world — simply sponge up whatever our “leaders” are into or tell us to think about. I’ve been concerned for some years about our groveling ir clamoring toward the UAE [one example] after years (and more than years) of being anti-Muslim [again only one example but an important one]; both tacks were and are too extreme, but we are told to look elsewhere for what is extreme (especially at a neighbor and not at the leaders {and/or their masses of support in power centers} or at movers and shakers in profiteering). Most don’t decipher the inconsistencies and hypocrisy and, rather, prefer the choice of a favored position (from an either-or or, occasionally — still leaving out the substantive realities as option or awareness — a multiple choice) in order to allow for a return (after a momentary prick of usually subconscious conscience) back to internal, metaphorical, homeostasis (or is it, to some extent, a literal metabolic homeostasis) and back to not feeling a need to call much of our established structure of profit out on their/our culpability and lack of leading in better governance. Here is a well-presented signatory to my view; it streamed today.
