Friday Fictioneers — A Last Look Back

I finished loading the rental truck with all of my belongings. The darkness of the cold winter’s day was already upon me and it was time to go. I said my goodbyes to family and friends, which was emotional for everyone, but I was ready to move on and to start the rest of my life.

I climbed up and onto the driver’s seat, put on my seatbelt, and started the truck. My eyes welled a bit as I took one last look back through the outside rearview mirror. Then I shifted into drive and my new life’s journey commenced.

This photo inspired me; no, it’s not me saying the words:

    … …

    Continue restful-breath-unto-relaxation-exhhaalllle. … …

Vaguely golden-age-era lights… India massage through the dark from my mirror.

Finishing my day; put car in
gear… blocks to reach my bed…

Central Hyde Park. Could my respect for architectural heritage, history, cultural diversity, for strangers… extend to appreciation for my mother’s perspective and evaluation in choosing her online physician? Funny I hadn’t thought her very bright in that area, if any — her previous fine choice of family doctor notwithstanding,

    Then Dad reported. Scoffing.

    We’d indulged in December twenty-four
chatter; he searched online; this new man, an M.D. instead of a D.O., had schooled in Pakistan.

Edits within an excerpt: since I had 99, I can add one word:

Vaguely gilded-age-era lights… old India massage through the dark from my mirror.

Finishing my day; put car in
gear… blocks to reach my bed… Central Hyde Park.

      Could my ….

Some people will be starting first college semesters in winter (rather than the more usual autumn semester that begins in summer). Of course, many may leave for different encounters than that. Some intend never to return.
