The idea behind Who Won the Week is to give you the opportunity to select who (or what) you think “won” this past week. Your selection can be anyone or anything — politicians, celebrities, athletes, authors, bloggers, your friends or family members, books, movies, TV shows, businesses, organizations, whatever.
I will be posting this prompt on Sunday mornings (my time). If you want to participate, write your own post designating who you think won the week and why you think they deserve your nod. Then link back to this post and tag you post with FWWTW.
This week’s Who Won the Week winner is someone you probably never heard of. His name is Alexander McLeish of Massachusetts. He was recovering from open heart surgery and received a get well card from a friend. In that card were three scratch-off tickets.
As McLeish scratched off the letters on the crossword lottery ticket, he revealed the word “heart” on the bottom row of the puzzle. That scratch off card was a winner. But not just a winner, a $1 million winner!
According to the Massachusetts State Lottery, there are only 10 total prize winners for that amount on the $20 lottery ticket. The odds of McLeish winning $1 million were literally one in a million.
This was actually the second time that the same friend had gifted McLeish a lottery ticket that turned out to a be winner. The first time was for McLeish’s 60th birthday, and he won $1,000.
McLeish said he plans to give some of the money to his adult sons and some to the friend who gave him the get well card with the scratch tickets in it.
So congratulations to you, Alexander McLeish. I hope you’re recovering well from your surgery.
What about you? Who (or what) do you think won the week?
Now that is a good news choice!

What a heartwarming story! No seriously. Another contender… anti-choicers 🙁

Anti-choicers is the opposite of heartwarming.

Good choice. I think Brian Williams deserves some praise for his farewell warnings about our democracy.

Yes, I agree. His parting words were compelling.

This is a lovely story. I’ve heard of people putting £1 lottery scratchcards as a wedding favor too. KL ❤️

Some one who did win the week in a positive way…. was it last week that the man bought two tickets with the same numbers to win something like $2000 a month for live, twice?

My mother has believed, for years, that she has won a car or a lottery or a house or a credit card or a number of things. She has, thereby, lost almost everything. She is in the process of trying to lose the rest. I found a show called Trafficked yesterday. The first episode is on scamming. As it turns out, there is a major center in Jamaica. Curiously, my mom has sent money to Jamaica. Somehow, other people (my sons and I) who look in on her situation know this, have known it and told her, but she doesn’t know it. Some of the people in Jamaica were willing to be interviewed by a journalist. Part of what they said is that stealing from old white people in America is like reparations. The Americans are stupid and want something for “free.” It’s an odd form of reparation, but as I think about it… my mom is the evil kind of person who portrays herself as not racist while being racist enough to stick with Donald Trump for President (until he called for protestors to march down to the capital). And you know who communicates with her on her phone? Scammers generally, and Trump fundraisers specifically (who she doesn’t respond to any longer).

Correction: “… until he called for protestors to march down to the Capitol.”
