That’s right, I got hitched. Well, my car got hitched. I had a trailer hitch installed so that I can attach a bike rack to it. That way we can put our new ebikes on it if we want to take them with us to ride somewhere other than near where we live.
I took the hitch to a guy who supposedly is an experienced trailer hitch installer. I told him the hitch needed to be installed on an electric car and he said, “No problem. A hitch is a hitch and a car is a car. I’ve installed dozens of them.” He told me it would take about an hour to install it.
It turned out that he had never before installed a trailer hitch on an electric car and it was way more complicated than installing one on a gas-powered car. I’m not sure why that is, but that’s apparently the case, at least with my EV. He ultimately had to entirely remove the car’s rear bumper in order to bolt the hitch to the frame. So what was he said would take about an hour, ended up taking him five and a half hours.
But at the end of the day, I was hitched. My new bike rack, one specifically designed for ebikes, should be delivered today or tomorrow.
