For those of you who read my blog from time to time, I have a few updates to share with you. If you don’t regularly read my blog, this post will have no context, so you might want to move on. Or, you can click on the three subheadings below to link to the relevant posts.
We’ve had our electric car for nearly four months and I love it. It handles great, it’s fun to drive, it’s quiet, and, given the price of a gallon of gas where I live…
…I love smiling as I pass by all these gas stations and never have to fill up my tank.
The electric bikes I ordered online were delivered and I dropped them off at a bike shop to be fully assembled by professionals. This week I’m having a hitch installed on our electric car and later in the week my bicycle rack capable of carrying two electric bikes should be delivered. If all goes well, my wife and should be taking our first e-bike rides this coming weekend.
I had an appointment with a urologist last week, and after reviewing my blood work and the MRI, he concluded that I probably do have prostate cancer. He said the next step would be for me to have a biopsy to confirm that. However, because (1) my PSA blood test showed levels only slightly above the high end of the range, (2) the mass is a relatively small one, and (3) cancer of the prostate is generally slow growing and men of my age are likely to die from something else before succumbing to prostate cancer, I said I’d prefer to take a “watch & wait” approach. So he agreed to wait for six more months and to take another blood test to see if my PSA number has increased enough to make it concerning.
Great news!!!

😟 My uncle died of prostate cancer some years ago.
I truly hope that things go well for you healthwise.
On a positive note, you got yourself an early diagnosis.

Electric vehicle, the future world road conger.

Conger? I was unfamiliar with that word so I googled it. A large predatory eel. Do you really equate EVs with predatory eels?

Actually they are soon going to run the world for their monopolistic acquisition as compared to fuelled vehicles

And that’s a bad thing because? Would you prefer that we continue to burn fossil fuels that are rapidly destroying our planet in our cars and trucks?

I prefer electric motors than fueled engines

Oh fandango, I am so sorry you might have prostate cancer! That is so worrying!
Sending up prayers that it was caught on time!
Glad the electric car and bikes are working out well for you and your wife!

The prostate thing is disturbing, but like you, my urologist and internist told me that most of us were likely to die of other causes before the prostate did us in.

Yes, that seems to be the general consensus.

“watch & wait” approach is good

This is a mixed bag. Keep an eye on the symptoms and if anything changes, see you doctor. Meanwhile, enjoy the e-bike.

E-vehicles are always a good option and I can imagine your smirk as you pass the gas stations!
Take care and I think watch and wait is a better option now. Periodic checks are important.

Prostate cancer is to men like breast cancer is to women. Wait long enough, you’ll probably get it. We keep surviving while so many around us die. It’s weird. Does blogging keep us going?

I think it keeps me going.

Just happened across this post. Congrats on the electric car. Hoping your ebikes both have the men’s style with the top bar or you may need to get an extender bar that the bike rack will hold. I have a woman’s bike but am fortunate enough that this model has the lower bar high enough to sit it on the rack at an angle. If you haven’t picked out a rack yet please consider that aspect of it before you do. About your blood work and possible diagnosis am very sorry to hear what the diagnosis might be but at the same time am happy it’s as minimal as it can be for now. {{{{HUGS}}}}

Our ebikes are step-through models with no top bars. The bike rack I got, the Kuat NV 2.0 can accommodate “women’s” bikes with no top bar.

Awesome, Fandango! I only mentioned it because of recently going through getting a hitch installed and buying a rack.

I was worried about that, too, Li, because my old bike rack that fit my previous car hooked to the top bar, but the one I bought for my ebikes does not.

I wish you well. Maybe going for a biopsy is the right thing to do. Initial stages are easier to resolve.

Thanks. A prostate biopsy is not very pleasant, I’m told, and there are some risks, so I think I’ll watch and wait until the spring when I’ll get another blood test.

Watch and wait is the best option I reckon too 🙂

Good to hear about the electric car being such a success and I’m sure the eBikes will be as well. Not so great to hear about the prostate cancer. Hopefully the watch and wait strategy will give you some time to decide how you want to deal with it.
Those petrol prices look scary but of course they are per gallon, aren’t they? Makes it look worse to me as I’m used to seeing it by the litre. Not that it helps, prices are rising and some say we could be on $2 a litre by next year. If you buy the premium stuff, it’s already around $A1.80 or so a litre I think.

One U.S. gallon equals 3.78 liters. So $A1.80 would be $A5.58 per gallon. And today $A1.00 equals $.71 U.S. dollars.

Other things will probably knock you off before PC. Fan…..
Eg you can get electrocuted on an e-bike. Didn’t know that? Have to mind your whatsits when sitting. Good insulation is recommended. Somehow the beast’s electrical energy seems to seek out this point of weakness, The science is beyond me I’m afraid ……

Glad about the electric car, and the electric bikes… not so glad about the potential prostate cancer but it is what it is… ‘wait and see’ seems to be a sensible approach in the circumstances 🙂

Congrats on the electric. You are a lot braver than I. I wouldn’t want to wait, lol. But I do have ‘light’ hypochondria, lol

Glad you’re pleased with your electric transport. Sorry to hear the diagnosis. Not being a guy, I can only go by guys locally who have PC and have had various treatments, all of which have had positive results. Keep safe, and aware of any changes.

It sounds like the diagnosis may be fairly early which is a good sign. The time you take gives you a chance to do your own research about steps best suited to you. I wish you well as you decide how best to proceed. Holding all good thoughts for you. I am very jealous of the electric vehicles. Where I live there are not an abundance of charging stations so it would be a bit early for us t9 make such a purchase. I’m anxious to hear your reviews.

Thanks for your kind words, Maggie. As to the electric vehicle, we installed a car charger in our garage and, so far, I haven’t had to go to a public charging station. Not yet, anyway.

Electric vehicles are all the rage here. I am unsure about the costs though. The e-bikes sound great. Our hills are not high but much too high for me to bike at this stage of the game. I like the idea of the e-bike.
I am hoping your medical condition moves slower than a snail and progresses at the rate of a tRumpian gaining common sense. (hoping that gave you a laugh)

Yes, electric cars have a higher price than gas-powered cars, but there are tax credits at the federal, state, and local (county) levels that more than offset the higher initial purchase price. As to electric bikes, they too, cost more than traditional bikes, but our old bikes were collecting dust in our garage because, between the hills and our age, we just never rode them. I’m sure we’ll get a lot of use out of our e-bikes and won’t stress our fragile old bodies too much trying to make it up the steep hill that leads to our home.
I too, hope my prostate cancer grows at a snail’s pace, and your reference to the crazy orange man did give me a chuckle. Thank you for that, Lauren.

I am glad you are enjoying the electric car and snubbing the gas stations on the way by. (And I thought I was upset with $3.20 a gallon I paid… wow your prices are high!) I hope the bikes are getting a lot of use. And it sounds like waiting is a safe decision at this time. I am hoping your numbers remain virtually unchanged in six months! Stay safe and have a happy new year!
