Haunted Dorm

Grace!” her mother said when she opened the front door to their home. “What are you doing here, honey? Why aren’t you still at college.”

“I’m done with college, Mom,” Grace said as she entered the house. “I’m not going back, either, no matter what you say.”

“Did something happen at school, sweetie?” her mom said, throwing her arms around her visibly shaken daughter.

“Yes, Mom, something happened,” Grace said. “My dorm is haunted and the boogeyman has been haunting me.”

“Honey, are you on drugs or something?” Grace’s mom asked. “You know that the boogeyman is not real and I’m sure your dorm is not haunted.”

“Yes it is, Mom,” Grace insisted, “and I’m not going to spend another solo night there.”

Grace’s mom led her daughter to the kitchen and told her to take a seat. “Would you like some coffee, sweetie? I’ll brew a fresh pot.”

“Sure, Mom, that would be great.”

When the coffee finished brewing, Grace’s mother poured them each a cup. “Now tell me, Grace, what is really going on.”

Grace lowered her head and her eyes welled up. “Mom, I got expelled,” she said.

“Oh my God, Grace. Why did they expel you?”

“I think someone slipped some ecstasy or roofies or some other kind of psychedelic concoction into one of my drinks at the dorm’s Halloween party last night,” Grace said. “I don’t remember much of what happened because I must have passed out eventuality, but I saw that there were a bunch of photos and videos posted on Instagram showing me standing on a table doing a slow striptease.”

“Oh Grace,” her mother said.

“Mom, it gets worse,” Grace said. “Once I had completely stripped, I apparently agreed to have sex with about a half a dozen guys. And all that is out there on Instagram for the whole world to see. Some of those videos of me stripping and having sex have gone viral, Mom. I’ve lost any self-esteem.”

Both Grace and her mother were crying. Grace’s mother hugged her daughter and said, “Don’t worry, my baby, we’ll get through this.”

“Mom, what are you going to tell Dad?” Grace asked.

Grace’s mother thought for a moment and finally said, “I think I’ll go with the boogeyman story.”
