Fandango’s Provocative Question #124

FPQ

Welcome once again to Fandango’s Provocative Question. Each week I will pose what I think is a provocative question for your consideration.

By provocative, I don’t mean a question that will cause annoyance or anger. Nor do I mean a question intended to arouse sexual desire or interest.

What I do mean is a question that is likely to get you to think, to be creative, and to provoke a response. Hopefully a positive response.

I am not preoccupied with death, but I must admit that as I’ve aged, I think more about it now, as a septuagenarian, than I used to in my younger days. We know that none of us is immortal and that we’re all going to die at some point in the future. That brings me to this week’s provocative question:

Would you want to know before hand the date, time, and circumstances of your death, or would you rather not know when and how it will happen?

If you choose to participate, write a post with your response to the question. Once you are done, tag your post with #FPQ and create a pingback to this post if you are on WordPress. Or you can simply include a link to your post in the comments. But remember to check to confirm that your pingback or your link shows up in the comments.

    I don’t think I would want to know. Partly because I think you’ll always be looking to that date.

    Here is something very odd that I have done a number of times. I still sometimes have incredibly intense headaches to the extent that I am almost afraid when I go to bed that I might not wake up the next day. But I start to ask myself “if someone came in and found me here, is my little nest perfectly clean?” I have actually got up out of bed feeling dreadful because I cannot bear to think of dying in my sleep and someone finding a stack of unpressed laundry or splashes and crumbs in the kitchen!

    Part of me would prefer to know that if I were to die unexpectedly it would be right after I have finished all of my housework and my nest would be pristine.

      I think you’re a little OCD, Mel. 😉

          I can actually see that as a reason to want to know 😁… although I did have unexpected company yesterday {the 29th} evening after simply “warning” the invitees (among whom was an individual who did the initial self and group inviting) that the house wasn’t quite clean (which primarily meant I haven’t dusted the mantle or the cabinet in the dining room since before the covid of 19 and also that a few odds and ends weren’t put away like an emery board and a roll of wrapping paper). Ultimately, though, I don’t desire to know. I’m currently working on the things I want to get done in preparation. I hope I will have time, because it’s been bizarre running into obstacles that make no actual sense (such as when I paid a lawyer to complete some tasks that cannot be done on one’s own, although they could be in the past, and she didn’t do them but gaslighted me as per that to which we had agreed even though the understanding was in writing) stretching efforts out for years. I additionally want to get my stuff (physical things) more organized (and identified as to which are worth a little more). But when I’m still applying myself to legal paperwork (besides doing this for my mother, too, who doesn’t seem to understand it at all), knowing a date wouldn’t matter as there isn’t enough time in the day.

          {I thought I already posted this on the thirtieth, but I found it sitting here not posted.}

    Are we talking about each time? As in clinically dead … but what if they bring you back?
    I’ve been to the other side twice, and I’m hoping the third time is the charm but I can wait a while for the visit.

      I am a believer in you only live once, I’m going with that interpretation.
