Simple wooden tombstones with their letters burned onto their surfaces in a slipshod manner stand askew in the paupers wing of the cemetery reserved for the anonymous dead.
Written for the following daily prompts: Word of the Day Challenge (simple), MMA Storytime (tombstone), Ragtag Daily Prompt (burn), Your Daily Word Prompt (slipshod), The Daily Spur (wing), and Fandango’s One-Word Challenge (anonymous).

You sure they are wood? We have tombstones like that, but they are stone. Thinly cut, but I’ve never seen wooden tombSTONES. The thin ones break pretty easily. They get brittle with age and the wind knocks them over. We have a very old graveyard in Uxbridge that goes back to the 1600s. A lot of the oldest stones are thin and while they do their best to clamp them back together, the oldest stones are in so many pieces, they can’t even clamp them back into place.
