Do You Read Me?

I’m going to assume that if you’re reading these words that you read my blog, at least occasionally. I’m curious, though, how you’re reading my blog.

(I was going to include a poll in this post to ask you how you read my blog, which is something I could do using the old classic editor. But inserting a poll into a post does not seem to be an available block in the block editor. At least not on the iPhone version of the block editor. So I guess I’ll have to ask my questions the old fashioned way.

Do you read my posts…

  • from the WordPress reader?
  • from a laptop or desktop computer?
  • from a tablet?
  • from a smartphone?

The reason I’m asking this question is that I blog from an iPhone using the WordPress iOS app. I always preview my posts before I publish them. And when I preview them, the app gives me the option of previewing the post from a mobile device view, from a tablet view, or from a desktop view.

Because I use my iPhone to read posts, I preview my posts in Mobile view to make sure it looks the way I want it to. But I’ve noticed that if I go to Desktop view, it sometimes looks weird. Sometimes the images aren’t centered in desktop view as they appear to be in mobile view. Or the text, which looks fine when aligned left in the mobile view, seems lost in the desktop view.

And then there’s the reader view, which is pretty much non-formatted — at least via the iPhone app — and looks nothing like what the post looks like when you actually visit the site. I hate the reader view.

So, back to my question. When you read my posts, do you mostly read them from a desktop/laptop, from a tablet, or from a mobile device? Or do you read them via the WordPress reader?

And, for what it’s worth, I read all of your posts from my iPhone in mobile view.

WordPress on mobile is my most common way of reading your wicked cool thoughts. Sometimes on my laptop or tablet. But yeah, funny how appearance is quite different of different mediums. Especially when it comes to accompanying artworks or photos. In the end though – enjoying the whims and outbursts of your mind on all of them… 💪😎

I use all of them. Funny, till you asked the question I never realized that I use all four ways to read posts from bloggers. 🙂

I mostly read posts from the reader on my phone but I read responses to the #writephoto challenge on the computer as I find it easier to copy and paste extracts. So I guess I do a bit of both. KL ❤️

I load your desktop site in my browser, then hit a little button which strips all your widgets, most of your images, and gives me the post, black on white. |So the weeks you put into designing your site are, I’m afraid, lost on me.

I read your posts on the wordpress reader using my smartphone. So I get the mobile view, I think.

I mostly read them via the WordPress app for Android unless I happen to be working on a post. In that case, I’ll be reading your posts on my laptop

I read you mostly on my phone via the WP reader in the Chrome browser. Occasionally I will read you on my laptop the same way. That’s also how I compose posts. I no longer use the app for either because it’s annoyingly glitchy. I don’t visit your site or many but my own very often. I obsess over my own to make sure everything looks right… that no one sees!

Unusually, I’m reading this post on my phone. Usually I do anything to do with blogging on the laptop. On which your posts look fine. I’m subscribed to your blog via email. I never use the Reader. It doesn’t work for me. I have to admit to not reading all your posts. They come thick and fast and I simply don’t have the time! But I always enjoy the ones I read.

Erg. I hope the view from your iPhone doesn’t make my posts look all wonky, I do worry about that! In answer to your question “Do you read my posts…from the WordPress reader, and from a laptop or desktop computer via email (I get notifications sporadically about your posts). I’ve read them on my tablet, and the Reader, the desktop, and the tablet view are all the same just FYI. Formated just fine too. It’s a bit unnerving that WordPress can’t consolidate the format on a person’s blog, especially if the person uses one venue (such as an iPhone) to do their blogging. But it’s WordPress. I don’t expect much.

when I read you , I do so on my desktop only (looks fine btw) .
through a 32″ HD (Hegelian Dialectic) screen in WP reader.

mobile phones, be it apple or android are for ID apps and IOTs (what are those things ?)

no offence intended as I use 1- 2 (android) only, not so much.

Your posts come into my reader and I access them on my laptop as that’s the only computer device I have.

I always browse the web from my desktop PC; only rarely, and briefly, from my dumbphone (when I need to find the answer to a specific question). The former provides much more functionality than the latter.

I was going to include a poll in this post to ask you how you read my blog, which is something I could do using the old classic editor. But inserting a poll into a post does not seem to be an available block in the block editor.

Yeah, exactly. My advice: use a standard browser on a PC to compose posts. It’s not a flaw in the block editor (though that does have many): if you don’t have ‘poll’ options (which do exist when accessed via a desktop PC) it’s a flaw in the WordPress app — and so I never use that, because it’s so badly broken.

I read on my desktop, sometimes in the emails, others I’ll click through to this page. Never in the reader or phone. Never noticed any off-center images or text. I’ll try not to start looking for such things now that you mention them. 😁😜 In any event, I always enjoy your posts. They’re usually thought-provoking, often funny.

I use either a desktop or my laptop computer and always access WordPress through the Reader. However, I choose to click on the “visit site” option so I can see the post the way the writer formatted it.
That’s the way I post too, in desktop mode so I hope it looks OK on your mobile. Writing on a mobile phone would drive me insane.

I read everything on a a laptop, either the big PC or the smaller Mac. The only thing I do on my phone is read news alerts and play solitaire. And make phone calls and/or texts. But for what it’s worth, I think however you write it, it looks normal on any device. It looks absolutely normal to me on the big PC. I don’t even have WP hooked up on my phone and anyway, I share the phone with my son so I try to keep usage low since it’s his primary form of communication. I use more email, less phone.

I only use a laptop and I read almost everything in WP Reader – only visiting actual sites when I am clicking pingbacks on blogging events such as Song-Lyric-Sunday. Even my own posts, I read in the Reader to spot typos after they have been published (which I know is bad) and then I correct the typos before too many people notice how tired I was when I originally wrote the post.

I am typically on my computer. I usually read on Reader. I know my own blogs get messed us from how they appear on Preview for me. Your blogs are usually read on reader, but if they look odd, I move to your actual site.

On my iPhone, delivered via email, your posts look fine. I can’t read them all because you’re so prolific, but I invariably enjoy and appreciate what I read.

I publish my posts via a laptop, and I view them first to see how they’ll look in phone as well. Surprise! On my phone, they often don’t flow the way they do in my WP preview. Not so good when I write poetry, especially acrostics.

So glad you haven’t surrendered to the Block Burdens, Fandango.

Both smartphone and laptop, always visiting your website, not using the reader. I write all my posts on the laptop; when I go see the post on my phone, I notice the format is mostly ok, except when there are two or more columns, usually photos, then they are shown in a single column. I have assumed it is ok for the smartphone reader to scroll down instead of right, as the text instructs, but you got me thinking, maybe I should change my wording to match either view …

I faced the same problem. I usually edit my posts from my laptop but, recently, I checked to see how it would look like in the mobile view through my laptop, and for some weird reason, the image got cropped out. I read blogs from my phone but i post from my laptop. If you ever find a solution to this, do ping me. 🤍🤍

I have no idea why the image would look cropped. I don’t use a laptop — just my iPhone — for my blog, but maybe there is an issue with how the mobile view is displayed when you preview posts in mobile view from your laptop.
