“They’re all a bunch of frickin’ liars. They can’t conjure up a lucid thought between any of those scurrilous crumb-bums. I have the utmost contempt for every last one of them,” Dan said.

“Take a deep breath, Dan,” the school’s principal said, “and find your serenity. I know that attempting to manage all of them can be challenging, but try to remember that they’re just second graders, not politicians.

Second graders can get totally out of control if you don’t keep a close eye on them.

Crumb bums, haven’t heard that in years!  My first thought for serenity was Mr. Costanza  on Seinfeld with his “serenity now!”

I appreciate being reminded of the term “crumb-bum” (which I only remember, once in a while, my dad saying), although it was not applied to second-graders. That guy is stressed out.

I haven’t heard that term in forever! I do like the twist of it being second graders stressing him out.
