Fandango’s Provocative Question #116

Welcome once again to Fandango’s Provocative Question. Each week I will pose what I think is a provocative question for your consideration.

By provocative, I don’t mean a question that will cause annoyance or anger. Nor do I mean a question intended to arouse sexual desire or interest.

What I do mean is a question that is likely to get you to think, to be creative, and to provoke a response. Hopefully a positive response.

Now that the A to Z Blogging Challenge is over for this year, I’m back live for the first time since the end of March. I thought I’d do something a little different today. I’m a big fan of Stephen Colbert (the man and his ice cream) and he has this thing he calls “The Colbert Questionert.” It’s a collection of 15 questions that he claims reveals who a person is and he periodically has guests on his show, “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert,” where he administers his questionnaire.

Since you are a guest on my blog, I thought I’d play the role of Stephen Colbert and pose these 15 questions to you in this week’s edition of Fandango’s Provocative Question(s).

If you choose to participate, write a post with your response to the question. Once you are done, tag your post with #FPQ and create a pingback to this post if you are on WordPress. Or you can simply include a link to your post in the comments. But remember to check to confirm that your pingback or your link shows up in the comments.

So, are you ready? Have fun, and I encourage you to elaborate on your answers and why you answered them the way you did.

  1. Best sandwich?
  2. What’s one thing you own that you really should throw out?
  3. What is the scariest animal?
  4. Apples or oranges?
  5. Have you ever asked someone for their autograph?
  6. What do you think happens when we die?
  7. Favorite action movie?
  8. Favorite smell?
  9. Least favorite smell?
  10. Exercise: worth it?
  11. Flat or sparkling?
  12. Most used app on your phone?
  13. You get one song to listen to for the rest of your life: what is it?
  14. What number am I thinking of?
  15. Describe the rest of your life in 5 words?

I once answered the question of favorite action movie while playing LOADED QUESTIONS. I like that game. My answer was Blue Streak. I have no reason to change that. The Matrix is an action movie, sort of, but more of a mind trip.

To get more “action-moviish” and to reflect my recent life (just because I watched about a third of it to relax before bed last week and the rest of it on Sunday for the same purpose), I’ll now go with “Safe House” (2012). [And, today, I was moved to the idea it would be good to get back in touch with a JC (Jewish Community) center, to get some interpersonal input that isn’t either anti-intellectual or anti-luminal or both, and perhaps I’ll be less stressed.]

I was asking a son, Tuesday, if he remembered my answer to this question. He didn’t, even though he had said (with some conviction) back then, that it was a good answer. So, he guessed “Book of Eli” (which he also likes). I like that movie a lot, but I said I don’t think if it as an action movie. However, he’s right that it is more of one than is “Blue Streak.” Meanwhile, both “Safe House” and “Book of Eli” star Denzel Washington. So, that counts for something.

    Great questions Mister F 🙂

    Best sandwich?

It used to be twiglets and jam – now l am rrestricted to what l can actually put into bread as l only eat sourdough by itself. But T&J was to die for.

What’s one thing you own that you really should throw out?

I think it might be me.

    What is the scariest animal?

The animal that leaves the ugliest scars. I am not really scared of animals strangely enough – but l am scared of many humans.

    Apples or oranges?

…. and do what with them? Do they fit or not? I guess it comes down to the apeel maybe and if you are full of zest … ?

Have you ever asked someone for their autograph?

Yes years ago, l can’t remember the last person as a keen auto collector l received as a child but in the 90’s l asked a porn star for hers and she wrote it on me somewhere secret that night! But then rubbed it out!!

What do you think happens when we die?

Well, l guess if we are not taken care of, we might start to smell reeeeeeally bad! A shorter answer is apparently we stop breathing …..

    Favorite action movie?

    I have many but l guess Face/Off.

    Favorite smell?

I love the smell of napalm in the morning 🙂

    Least favorite smell?

    Badly cooked macaroni cheese!

    Exercise: worth it?

Yes totally, the exercise is the easy part, the hard part is sticking to it. Once people adopt the right mindset, it becomes a lot easier.

    Flat or sparkling?

Depends upon which side of the bed l wake up on.

Most used app on your phone?

Is the on function an app?

You get one song to listen to for the rest of your life: what is it?

The Sound of Music – My favourite things….

What number am I thinking of?

The same one as me l think 🙂

Describe the rest of your life in 5 words?

    Crap, my damn body aches!

Non-Americans often think peanut butter and jelly is weird. I can hardly imagine Twiglets and jelly on bread. The Twiglets themselves sound kinda good, though.

Hey Marleen, strangely enough when in Australia, l also used to have jam and peanut butter. I am guessing the jelly is the same as our jam? Jelly over here is like a dessert that wobbles 🙂

Yes, jelly is like jam. There can be slight differences. For instance, our jam would have more chunks of fruit than most jelly. And some people would prefer jam with their peanut butter. But the usual go-to for the name of the sandwich is peanut butter and jelly, even if the person making or eating the sandwich ends up using jam or preserves (yet more fruit) or fruit spread. So many choices. Of course, there’s also the decision of smooth or chunky peanut butter.

Yes, l do so love peanut butter and sadly it no longer loves me, mind you neither does the jam …. or even the Twiglets – such is life hahaha 🙂

Afterthought: our stuff (the same I would guess as your stuff) that “is like a dessert that wobbles” is called jello (rather than your label over there of jelly) — Jell-o being a brand name that has been generalized even though there are other brand names — or gelled dessert or a jell dessert or mold* using gelatin. [And then there’s a kind of shoe called Jelly or Jellies, press-on nails or nail decorating material called Jelly, highlighting gel (for skin) called Jelly… and more things, I’m sure.]

*Oddly, these will sometimes be called gelatin salads — although this terminology is going out of style — for the addition of fruit or carrots suspended in the gelatin.

While I’m here, I’ll add that I know someone who was just told a few weeks ago not to eat peanuts (or peanut butter) anymore. Also, no more farm-raised fish. And there are other details I don’t remember except that fat is supposed to be very low throughout each day. Oh, no beer. He’s had some kind of stone. The rules are similar as for gout, which he’s had, and I vaguely remembered the same rules being conveyed to him a couple years ago or so (except I think the peanut part is new).
