SoCS — Run From Reality

People see what makes sense to them, reality notwithstanding. At least that’s what she always used to say to me all the time. I never quite understood what she meant by that. Especially since, of the two of us, she was the one who would always run away from reality.

She would tell me, even though there were a plethora that we could have followed, that we were on the wrong path, that my view of what we had was a misconception of reality. It’s all a game,” she would tell me, “but one that neither of us knows how to play.”

She was always volatile, and she never trusted “the system,” but when she decided to run away from it all, and from me, that was unexpected.

And now here I am, standing at her gravesite at the cemetery, trying to fathom how — and why — she chose to run from life. This is now my reality, but it still doesn’t make any sense to me.

Written for the First Line Friday prompt from Mindlovemisery’s Menagerie, where the first line is “People see what makes sense to them, reality notwithstanding.” Also for Linda G. Hill’s Stream of Consciousness Saturday prompt, where the word is “run.” Also for these daily prompts: Fandango’s One-Word Challenge (plethora), The Daily Spur (path/game), Ragtag Daily Prompt (misconception/unexpected), MMA Storytime (volatile/cemetery), Word of the Day Challenge (system),

Those who know someone who has committed suicide are left wondering why… on the other side of it – it is a dark place to be where there is only one way out (or so you think). Very good job with a tough subject.
