          I subscribe to Hulu Live, a streaming service that offers live, local TV stations as well as live cable news networks and a bunch of other cable channels. It even has cloud-based DVR functionality. And it’s a lot cheaper than typical cable providers like Comcast.

              There is the infrastructure, under the ground in my yard, for me to set up either Google Fiber or at&t as my internet provider (two separate lines and installation episodes in the neighborhood). Whichever one I would pick for internet provision, I can still decide on HuluLive or youtubeTV or whatever else there is that offers cable and television news. Even if I choose google fiber, and then youtubeTV for news and other channels — both GoogleFiber and youtubeTV being owned by Google — they are separate bills on different billing schedules. (I don’t think Hulu offers an internet provider, but I could be wrong about that.)

              You’re right, I still use my cable company as my ISP, but not for TV anymore.

      I downloaded an NBC app (free) a couple or few years ago, onto my phone, and thought it was too cumbersome (with all the commercials) for my purpose of watching whatever sitcom I thought I was going see. I totally blew it off. Now, I get a bunch of television and cable channels, on any wi-fi device including the two up-to-date televisions [and including my phone], through youtubeTV (which I would guess is pretty much like the Hulu service Fandango had chosen); and I can select to record (if that’s the right word) certain regular shows or specials that I want, so then I don’t have to wait for commercials.

        I’m so pleased to hear that Marleen. Things are changing quickly. Remember when we cut the first cord, the home phone? That was a difficult decision, full of “What ifs?” Lol ☺️. Thanks for sharing with me.

          ☎️ Honestly, I miss the old home phone concept. 👀 I was going to purchase an ornate one for a room with a small desk or telephone bench. Then I found out that even though I’ve kept the wires in the walls, the meter or whatever it was called (outside) has been trashed. I didn’t want to pay to get a new one of those, too. Maybe I will, someday. But the newfangled tele-vision access is working out. (I will do the same thing, however; not take out the cable jacks and so forth. Might be a little silly, but okay 🙃.)

    We cut the cord years ago when the cost far exceeded the value for the hour or two a week we watched it, and have never regretted it. We have BritBox through Amazon and watch one show a week! Better things to do with life than sit in front of a box.

    We cut the cable some five years ago, and we are streaming programmes via Amazon’s Fire TV Stick.

      I wish I would have done it five years ago. We use a Roku Streaming Stick+.

    We tried it for a while but the stick stopped working. It is hard to get local stations in this house with an antenna but if Hulu offers local,,, I may look into cutting the cord once again. Hope it all works out for you!

    Ha! Welcome aboard, mate, I never had cable in my house and never regretted it. I grew up watching one channel (publicly broadcasted by the govt) and gave up the TV completely by the time I was in my teens. I don’t think you will miss the chord.

    By the way, brilliant tale, up to the second line I had all the varied scenarios then you mentioned the TV cable, and I couldn’t help but laugh out loud. glad to have you writing along.
