I usually don’t publish my Who Won the Week post until Sunday, but I’m going to make an exception today. Just one week after pro-Trump MAGA thugs stormed the U.S. Capitol building in an armed and deadly act of insurrection that was instigated and cheered on by Donal Trump, the House of Representatives, in an unprecedented move, impeached the very unpresidential president for the second time. Hence, I’m going to designate the American Democracy as an early winner of Who Won the Week.
I sat riveted as I watched the proceedings on TV. I heard the arguments on both sides of the issue and was pleased that ten Republicans had the courage to join 222 Democrats in the vote to impeach the scumbag for the second time. No Republicans in the House voted to impeach Trump the first time he was impeached last year.
The impeachment trial in the U.S. Senate probably won’t start before Joe Biden is sworn in as the next President of the United States next week, so Trump will not be removed from office before then. But it’s still possible that he will be convicted in the Senate — not likely, but possible — and he will, hopefully, be barred from ever holding a federal office ever again.
So much for Trump 2024!
2021 is going quiet well, shame it got off to such a rocky start!

Apparently McConnell is viewing this impeachment as the best way to purge Trump from the Republican Party.

Kind of hypocritical of McConnell, in my opinion. He enabled Trump for four years and only turns away from him in the last week of Trump’s term.

It seems like all we have to worry about now is who he will pardon.

Agreed. I was disturbed how he referred to Maga as a “movement”. That showed me he would still be aiming at people of color – he is the president, he should not have a :movement”.

The only movement he should have is a bowel movement. He suffers from diarrhea of the mouth and constipation of the brain.

That he is.

I think EVERYONE was busy watching the news. I got about a quarter of my normal hits and I think until the furor dies down, a lot of us are sort of glued to the news. I’m just rerunning a lot of stuff tomorrow because no one looked at it today. And because I’m probably going to be staring at the news tomorrow too.

Yep, me too, Marilyn. It’s like seeing an accident and not being able to look away.

I believe it was Vincent D’Onofrio how said this on a podcast, but today, I felt that I could maybe find the goodness thread again.
“There’s always somewhere in the room, somewhere, a tiny, tiny little thread of goodness. Always. You have to seek it out. You have to find that tiny little thread. You have to touch it and pull on it and you have to actively consciously make that choice. If you forget about that, you’re lost.”

I am actually going to contemplate that (as I already have been upon reading it today).

Hi Fandango, maybe you already follow Margaret and Helen. They have suffered extreme frustrations with Trump, just as you have reported. But I wondered if their most recent post might make you smile. I saw it this morning, Australian eastern time)I thought it made some good points, at least. By the way will probably get off WhatsApp fairly soon. Facebook is now collecting meta data. The messages are no longer encrypted. I tried to copy the link but am too dumb on my phone.

How embarrassing. I copied something else . Not the link. I should not have a smart phone. 🥴

No worries. Maybe you can give it another try.

I don’t think I’ve seen the post from Margaret and Helen. Do you have a link to the post you’re referencing so that I can check it out? Thanks. All you need to do is copy the blog post’s address (URL) and paste it into a comment.

I think it’s very possible that trump will be convicted, and if not, a simple majority vote under Article 3 of the 14th Amendment can bar him from office for life—and take away all his perks. Between financial problems and legal woes, he will be diminished to the insignificant personage he’s always been.
But our democracy needs refueling—and it’s essential to build on both House and Senate majorities in 2022.
These white supremacists have been emboldened and united by trump. And they have support in Congress, state legislatures, police, etc. I truly believe this is their last gasp in our increasingly minority/majority country, but they are the determined Jim Crow wannabees in what must finally be Reconstruction 2.0–no turning back.

Oh, my God… I want to take away his perks (and any ability to run again). And I don’t want him to have the big honorary funeral!

Yes, Trump prompted them to crawl out from under their rocks and I do hope that this is/was their last gasp.

Yes, faith restored! If only we can get him banned from ever holding a position again, I would be happy with that and let the Southern District of New York jail his ass on fraud, tax evasion, etc. etc. 🤣👍🤞
