Fandango’s Flashback Friday — January 8

Wouldn’t you like to expose your newer readers to some of your earlier posts that they might never have seen? Or remind your long term followers of posts that they might not remember? Each Friday I will publish a post I wrote on this exact date in a previous year.

How about you? Why don’t you reach back into your own archives and highlight a post that you wrote on this very date in a previous year? You can repost your Friday Flashback post on your blog and pingback to this post. Or you can just write a comment below with a link to the post you selected.

If you’ve been blogging for less than a year, go ahead and choose a post that you previously published on this day (the 8th) of any month within the past year and link to that post in a comment.

An Open Letter to Dog Owners

Dear fellow dog owners,

I have a bone to pick with some of you. Like you, I’m a dog owner. And like most of us dog owners, I’m responsible and diligent when it comes to cleaning up after my dog. I carry at least two poop bags every time I walk her and I always, always pick up her poop wherever she decides to deposit it.

But there are too many of you who are falling down on the job. You allow your dog to poop in the middle of the sidewalk, on people’s lawns, in the park on the grass where kids play, and on paths and trails where people walk.

I am sick of how inconsiderate you, as a dog owner, are being when you don’t bother to clean up after your dog. I am tired of having to scrape your dog’s shit off the soles of my sneakers when I step in the crap you and your dog left behind.

Like I had to do this morning when one of you sonsabitches left your dog’s poop in the middle of the sidewalk.

So I’m very nicely requesting that you do what is right and scoop up your dog’s shit so that someone else doesn’t end up stepping on it or sitting in it.

And I’m also putting you on notice. If I ever see any one of you thoughtless dog owners fail to pick up after your dog, I’m going to do you a huge favor and scoop it up in one of my poop bags.

And then I’m going to catch up with you and, I swear to God, I’m going to smash it in your face.

Best regards,

Fandango

I won’t be doing the flashbacks in Jan. Already too many posts. Thanks for the prompt though

It is something that drives me nuts too – also when people throw their poop bags into the trees! FFS take the bloody bag home with you if there isn’t a bin.

Agreed, its better to leave the poo where the dog dropped it; over collecting it in a bag that never degrades and making a poo-bauble out of it by throwing it in the trees.

A well aimed letter Fandango. I’m a respectful dog owner. Lucy carries her bags on her lead and I pick up and deposit in the bin everything she drops for me. It only takes a minute and I get to add some ‘Downward Dog’ position yoga to my walk too lol. Good post, my friend.

This is a pet peeve of mine. I live in the midst of many trail systems and open space and irresponsible dog owners leave those plastic bags of their dog waste on the side of the trail instead of packing it out… UGH!

They think they’re doing the right thing by scooping it into the poop bag, but then they just leave it by the trail or toss it into the woods. WTF?

What a great idea, and what a great little article, I will remember it next time the dog goes out.

I can definitely relate. I’m still waiting for the Happiness Engineers to fix the iOS bug that prevents me from liking or commenting on posts like yours (in blogs that don’t have “.wordpress.com” in the address). The latest feedback I got from the HEs is that it’s an Apple security issue, not a WordPress issue. 😠

This post resonates. I wrote about something similar (using a lot of words). Leaving the link here in case you’d like to read, though mind you, this is not for the Friday Flashback.

Interesting story, thanks for the link. I’d have liked your post and left a comment there, but a bug in the WordPress app for iOS makes it impossible for me to like or leave a comment on a post when the blogger’s blog doesn’t have “.wordpress.com” in its blog address. The WordPress happiness engineers are allegedly working to fix this bug. But I’m not holding my breath.

Glad you participated. Because of a WordPress bug affecting iPhones, I can’t like or comment directly on your post.

I know one of the local parks is bad about them not picking up on the paths. Loved your “Best regards!”
