Share Your World — Sharing in the New Year

Share Your WorldThis is Melanie’s first Share Your World prompt for 2021. Let’s see what she wants us to share, shall we?

What’s a relationship deal breaker for you?

Stinky farts.

Do you believe in extra-terrestrials?

No, we already have plenty of terrestrials. We don’t need any extra terrestrials.

In the morning, do you hit the snooze button on your alarm (sometimes repeatedly) or do you leap out of bed, ready to face the day?

I don’t ever set my alarm anymore. I usually wake up between 6 and 7 a.m., whether I need to or not. And since I’m retired, I never need to.

If you came back in the next life as an animal, which animal would you choose to be? (And even if you don’t believe in that, let’s suspend belief for a moment just to have a little fun.)

Technically speaking, human beings are animals. So, if I did believe in reincarnation, I’d want to “come back” as a human being. But, in the spirit of answering the intent of Melanie’s question, I suppose I’d like to be a pet, probably a dog, in a household that loves and cares for their pets.

What do you plan to work on this year to make it better than last year (personal goals, physically, or mentally, or all three)?

As far as personal improvements, all I can say is, “Hey, if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.” Am I right or what?

As to gratitude, I’m grateful that 2021 has finally arrived, given what a godawful year 2020 was. I just hope my gratefulness doesn’t go for naught.

Thanks Fandango for Sharing Your World! Lovely answers today, just the right thing! Look on the bright side, and perhaps the year won’t be so bad; but I’m also whistling in the dark so to speak! Who knows, right? I think you had one very good thing happen in 2020, your darling little grandbaby. You can look back and remember that, and think well it sucked, but it didn’t ALL suck. Have a great week this week!

That first one is kind of difficult/problematic to answer, except to say there would be quite a few specifications; I’m not naming anything. I’m going to respond more specifically to the last two questions. Well, I’ll throw in another: I think there may be extraterrestrials; I’m not invested in the idea. The animal might be a seal or sea lion — only in the wild. I’m mesmerized by their breezing around within a screen saver on my television (and I’ve always loved swimming). Could I be a mermaid? Actually, I’d like to be a regular person who can breathe under water. A couple things I have to do this year are 1) to lose about ten pounds (no dieting) and 2) to sort out the mess my mom has made of her life.

Good luck sorting out the mess your mother made of her life. That’s never an easy thing to do.

I have to do it without power of attorney or conservancy or any of that kind of benefit of making it clearer.

In other words, I don’t really have to do it; I could let the house she lives in disappear out from under her (not rescue her from what she’s done to cause it to disappear). Then she would have to handle her consequences herself. It may still come to that. She sees that her twin sister has been put in an assisted living home… “because she signed a power of attorney,” my mom says. In part, it’s true that’s why (or why she is in the nice one her daughters chose). But had my aunt not prepared and completed a power of attorney like a responsible adult, a hospital she was in a few months ago would have easily taken custody of her rather than let her check herself out (instead, they called one of the daughters so the daughter would convince her not to try to leave); if that sounds scary, mind that she had checked herself in for being suicidal.

My aunt had gone to a lawyer, of her own initiative, to get things in order many years ago. My mother is too self-absorbed for that. She told me a story decades ago about someone eating their own ice cream quickly and then wanting her sister to share hers (she presented it as if the greedy little person were her sister). I’ve come to realize, the selfish girl is my mom. As children, of course, either of the two could have done such a thing. But which grew up to not only do it as a woman but do it to someone who would never do it to her? And my mother does “tell” things that aren’t true. It’s not obvious; she’s very “good” at it. What I noticed sooner, however, was that she was like having a bratty older sister more than a mother. And the mother aspect was largely narcissistic. (Again, I am so glad to have had other inputs into my upbringing.)

I’m still trying to figure out how, if at all, this year is different than last year. Maybe when the new president is in office. More likely when — and if — we ever get vaccinated and I can leave the house and feel safe going outside!

It may yet be a while before we can feel safe going outside and being in the company of others. The best thing about 2021 is that it’s not 2020.

With the fibro and the meds I take I have a hard time waking up… so I not only hit snooze, but I have multiple alarms set on my phone too. 😴
