Who Won the Week? 12/13/2020

FWWTWIt’s time for another Who Won the Week prompt. The idea behind Who Won the Week is for you to select who (or what) you think “won” this past week. Your selection can be anyone or anything — politicians, celebrities, athletes, authors, bloggers, your friends or family members, books, movies, TV shows, businesses, organizations, whatever.

I will be posting this prompt on Sunday mornings (my time). If you want to participate, write your own post designating who you think won the week and why you think they deserve your nod. Then link back to this post and tag you post with FWWTW.

Sometimes I struggle to come up with even one designated winner for Who Won the Week. But this week I struggled to choose between the hope that the approval of Pfizer’s COVID-19 vaccine and the nail in the coffin to Trump’s ludicrous attempt to reverse the results of the presidential election.In the end I chose the Supreme Court of the United States. On Friday, the Supreme Court, in a brief order, rejected the Texas AG’s lawsuit to overturn Joe Biden’s election victory in four critical swing states. The court said that Texas did not have the legal right to sue those other states, thus ending Trump’s desperate attempt to use the Supreme Court, with its 6-3 conservative majority, including three justices appointed by Trump, to overturn the election results.

    And actually they all did. It was 7-2, but the two only because they thought they should hear it but would have nixed it if they did.

    I generally pass these by, and I may have said this to you before, because it reminds me too much of “Charlie Sheen winning.” Also as a guy who was bullied as a kid because of being shy and very early on, poor health, “winning” feels an awful lot like being beaten up, verbally and physically.

      The irony is bizarre… as I got jumped on at your site(s) for not being happy about Trump winning (and not in a context of anybody challenging who won). I was accused of arguing that he shouldn’t be inaugurated, when I had done no such thing. As usual, right-wing projection; those who identify with Republicans accuse others of what they want to get away with or enable.

      Who Won the Week not meant as a contest, a competition, or as a zero-sum game with winners and losers. It’s more for me (and others) to identify who or what they feel should be recognized for having done something noteworthy over the past seven days.

    The rain in California won the week! Such a welcome sight! It’s depressing that we’ve gotten to the point that we need to congratulate the Supremes for doing their primary job!

      With a 6-3 conservative majority including three Trump appointees, the last of which was pushed through in record time by Mitch & Company, I wasn’t totally convinced that they would do their primary job. Has anyone associated with Trump done their primary jobs?

    Here is a bit more information about the newish Court, which news came out Saturday even though the result happened the day before Election Day. As for Thomas, his point of view may have been that he would tolerate going through the motions of accepting oral arguments — but that his own decision would have ended up the same, anyway, as how it all did work.
