Trump had called it “the big one” that would end with the Supreme Court undoing Biden’s substantial Electoral College majority and allowing Trump to serve another four years in the White House.
The “it” in this case was the lawsuit filed by the Texas Attorney General against Georgia, Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin. The Texas AG accused the four key swing states, where Biden defeated Trump, of certifying “unlawful election results.” The lawsuit was asking the Supreme Court to declare that the Electoral College votes cast by electors in those four swing states “cannot be counted.”
Seventeen other Republican-led states signed on to the Texas AG’s suit, as did Donald Trump and 126 Congressional Republicans, in a last-ditch effort to try to subvert the will of the majority of the American people and, in the process, to destroy the American democracy.
But a more fragile democracy in the United States than any of us could have imagined, while being tested, has not fallen. Today, the Supreme Court rejected the Texas AG’s lawsuit to overturn Joe Biden’s election victory, ending a desperate attempt to get legal issues rejected by state and federal judges before the nation’s highest court.
In a brief order, the court said that Texas does not have the legal right to sue those states because it “has not demonstrated a judicially cognizable interest in the manner in which another State conducts its elections.” In other word, Texas, what happened vis-a-vis the election in other states is none of your fucking business.
The Electoral College meets Monday to formally elect Biden as the next president. And that means it’s all over for Trump.
Well, it’s all over but the shouting. But knowing Donald Trump, he’s not going to stop shouting. In fact, he and his supporters will probably turn up the volume to 11.
I know I should be happy with today’s decision by the Supreme Court, but I’m still worried. I am worried about what the mad man who still occupies the Oval Office, and will continue to do so for the next five-plus weeks, will do. I worry that his minions will not stand down. I worry that there will be violence and bloodshed in the streets of our nation.
I hope I’m wrong, but I worry that I’m not.
I am totally with you!!

I feel the same. More and more thinking that we should let red states go.

These lawyers that pushed these frivolous charges that did nothing but waste everybody’s time and get a bunch of idiots to contribute more money to Trump should be prosecuted for trying to destroy Democracy. With all the trouble going on in the country now and 2 people dying every minute this nonsense is keeping our country divided and these a-holes only care about themselves.

I feel exactly the same. There’s chaos everywhere and it all comes down to you know who

You should be worried because Trump is mad. And he can do anything. But I’m hoping the law is upheld.

There was a story here last night about how Trump has very rapidly increased the rate of executions since the election. As in, there has only been one previous execution during a Transition Period – ever, but Trump has given the green light for several more just in these next few weeks. So I don’t think he’ll go with a whimper.
On another note, a quite sharp satire show here last night projected the image of Biden being the lovable old duffer, very much like Reagan was portrayed, and Harris calling all the shots. Okay, it’s only satire, but I wonder…

I’m not sure why Trump is moving forward with executions or why he’s pushing to bring back firing squads as a means. He’s just crazy. As to Kamala Harris calling the shots, based upon the way Biden has handled himself since the election, I think he’s firmly in charge. That said, I think Harris will be a very involved and influential VP.

I won’t feel totally happy until the Inauguration is done and dusted. I feel relieved that there has not been major violence in the streets despite all these lawsuits.
I am so over reading about lawsuits and Trump’s constant harping. I feel like saying. “You lost, just get over it.”

His ego will not permit him to accept that he lost and to just get over it.

I worry, too. But I’m going to give equal time to the possibility that more people will come to their senses and accept reality and shouts of joy will prevail. Then maybe we can get back to the task of learning to work together and find some common ground.

In a comment after the ruling, two of the conservative justices (Thomas and one other) said they didn’t think the Court could brush aside the suit as it did, but they would have ruled against Texas anyway. I don’t think there’s any room left for more nails in this coffin.

It would seem so, but Trump has yet to concede.

It’s not terribly important that he concede since the office turning over the keys (I forget what it’s called) has already followed through. His continued disturbance will be on an instigators’ level, but nothing official. It’s very real, though, that people (even people who can’t afford it) keep giving him money.

As to anything “official” happening now, I think I’ll share something (in that I could’ve been wrong) on that elsewhere.

Hi!! My first visit here!! I’m on the same page as you! I’m concerned, flabbergasted and worried. I don’t think he will EVER shut up! He will continue to stoke his ‘base’ and they will all fall for it. May the nation be protected!! Safe holidays … from the heart!! ❤ …

Yes, I agree. As long as he can breathe, he will continue to spew lies and sow division. Thanks for stopping by and enjoy the holidays.

I share your worries. I don’t think trump can overturn the election, but he can recruit more people to his lies and hates.

The Inauguration Day is still too far away… so many things could happen between now and then. Do you think he will vacate the White House or will he have to be escorted out by Secret Service?

I think he’ll cave and vacate, although I’d love to see him escorted out in handcuffs.
