For this week’s Blogging Insights edition, Dr. Tanya wants to know what our family and friends think of our blogs. She wants to know…
How supportive are your family (or friends) of your blog?
After I retired at the end of 2016, my wife, as a way to keep me occupied and out of her hair, encouraged me to start a new blog. Once I started it and became, well, distracted by it, she’s shown little interest in it. She and my kids just consider my blog to be the random rantings and writings of an aging hippie, as do, apparently, most of my real world friends.
Do they do anything to help with your blogging efforts?
Nope. It’s my baby and I’m pretty much all on my own.
Do they read your work and offer a critique, if so, how do you react to it?
I can’t say for sure whether or not they read my blog. None of them has ever left a comment nor have they ever discussed any of my specific posts with me. But that’s fine with me. Blogging is my online, social media thing and tweeting, Instagramming, and Facebooking are their online, social media things.
I think it’s true for most of us.

This could very well have been written by me. But my sons have occasionally read my blogs in the past.

🙂 Fandango, I would like you to mention to your wife that I am grateful to her for suggesting that you start a blog.
Just in case you did not know, you filled a void for many people when the folks at WordPress decided to discontinue prompts (You took up the mantle and you continued where they left off).
You are an amazing blogger in my eyes!

Thank you, Renard. That’s very kind of you to say.

I think that is the experience of most bloggers unless their family and friends are into blogging too.

My kids used to blog at one point but I think they outgrew it. Hmm, what does that say about me?

It could say you are young at heart, which is a good thing.

Well, I’m glad to hear all these comments about lack of interest by family. My daughters encouraged me to start a blog, but when I refer to something I’ve written recently, they’ll say “…didn’t get to that yet, Mom.”
My loyal spouse, however, reads and comments on hard copy and often has good insights.
We’re in good company, though. In one of his recent book interviews, President Obama said his daughters never read his books. But maybe someday…

I can relate to this. I get all the right compliments and cheers. But most don’t understand how to follow or like 😊 so blogging cannot be reliant on friends and family🤣
