Who Won the Week? 12/06/2020

FWWTWIt’s time for another Who Won the Week prompt. The idea behind Who Won the Week is for you to select who (or what) you think “won” this past week. Your selection can be anyone or anything — politicians, celebrities, athletes, authors, bloggers, your friends or family members, books, movies, TV shows, businesses, organizations, whatever.

I will be posting this prompt on Sunday mornings (my time). If you want to participate, write your own post designating who you think won the week and why you think they deserve your nod. Then link back to this post and tag you post with FWWTW.

This week I learned that the 2020 Merriam-Webster word of the year is “pandemic.” And then this was the front page of this morning’s San Francisco Chronicle. So, as much as it pains me to do so, this week’s winner of Who Won the Week is the COVID-19 pandemic.

Thanks to Donald Trump’s abysmal mismanagement of America’s response to coronavirus, his rejection of guidance from qualified scientist and medical professionals, his making wearing face masks and social distancing a political issue, and his virtually throwing in the towel on any efforts by the federal government to take steps to deal with the pandemic, the United States is going through a third surge that dwarfs the first two. As I write this, America has had more than 15 million cases and almost 290,000 deaths, far more than any other country on the globe.A return to “normal” is still, it seems, a long way away. Maybe never, actually. Stay safe, everyone.

What about you? Who (or what) do you think won the week?

Since when does a pedicure rate a front page photo? Must be the news photographers are as tired as everyone else.

Some Shakespearian professor said this reads like act V in King Lear. If we were watching this on TV, we’d never believe it. I’m not sure I believe it. It’s so other worldly and SO un-American.

India (even if in the top seven most infected) is doing well compared to the US, since they have a far more huge population than we have.

Before seeing more than your intro, I had decided that the virus won the week! I hope this lockdown doesn’t last more than 3 weeks, but that already goes past Christmas! Maybe better that it lasts until they call us for vaccination!

And I wonder when the vaccines will actually be available on a large enough scale to bring the numbers down.

Covid is rabid here in the states. Our county only has 18 icu beds available and 1 in 6 are testing positive.

thank goodness there is not another strain about, then. But I’m sure there will be sooner or later.
Our first batch of patients got the Pfizer vaccine yesterday, but the whole thing was approved so quickly that you’d have to say they are guinea pigs.

I bet all those Republicans who massed to the dictators rallies without mask social distancing are now thanking him for their infections

If they went to his rallies and they got infected, they got what they deserved.

Heard on NPR, a little bit ago, that Giuliani has the 2019 corona virus infection now. They told a story about him asking someone sitting next to him to take off her mask a few days ago. She didn’t.

Earlier, today, after relaying to someone that Trump passed and didn’t say yes to an option to get more vaccination dosages, I called him a POS (spoken out rather than abbreviated). Just a few minutes ago, I called the congresspersons who won’t admit Biden is the president-elect “buttheads” — they are his enablers.

I would have to go with the pandemic too, on a much more personal note though. My daughter and her fiancé made the hard decision to postpone their January wedding. It was a decision that had to be made before a lot of their deposits were non refundable. They may still get married at the courthouse, but they are planning on having a ceremony and reception at a later safe date.
