“The election is one week from today,” Nancy, the campaign manager, said. “Were you able to reserve the front portion of the reception hall at the Stowaway Hotel for our campaign staff to utilize as the site of our election night celebration?”
“Yes, but, Nancy,” Josh said, “our candidate is behind in the polls by almost double digits.”
“You can’t believe the polls,” Nancy said. “Look what happened with Donald Trump in 2016.”
“Yeah, like Trump, Nancy, you’re delusional,” Josh said. “I think reserving a small crypt might be a more appropriate venue, as there probably won’t be anything to celebrate next Tuesday night.”

I was reading, a few days ago, that Haloween (historically) is part of a three-date recognition — by womever I’m not sure — starting with the eve… that followed by a saints day and then (on the second of November) a day to remember all souls. This year, those days are immediately buttressed by the last day for voting. [I don’t buy into a differentiation between saints and others worth remembering (although I do understand the metaphor along the lines of saying someone “was no saint” to convey an idea), but I thought the calendar this year to be a curiosity.] Just a bit of trivia; I’m not into Hallowe’en. Yet some people could end up with an extended, three-date event… spooky or not spooky in their personal experience.

I’m not into Halloween, either, so one day is more than enough as far as I’m concerned.

Oops. I meant “extended four-date event” (adding November the third).
A tradition gets lost in the decking of halls, and so on, from the start of October.

I just have a pit in my stomach knowing we are a week away from….who knows what!?!? Somehow I think Trump is going to pull it off. I hope I am so very wrong.

I hope you are wrong, too. And I’m very, very worried that you’re not.
