Frank, aka PCGuy, has published another one of his Truthful Tuesday posts. This week Frank wants to know…
What New Year’s traditions, if any, do you observe, and will the current state of things have any bearing on those traditions for this coming year?
Back when our kids were younger and still living at home, New Year’s Eve was game night. We’d play Pictionary, charades, Yahtzee, Scattergories, etc. It was so much fun.
But then our kids grew up and went out on their own, so my wife and I established our own new New Year’s Eve tradition. We would go out to dinner and then go to the late show at a local comedy club, where we would ring in the new year. It was a blast.
But just like everything else that has had to change in 2020, this year we will probably be reverting to a stay-at-home family game night with our kids. But instead of all of us gathering in the same place, we’ll be playing our family games via Zoom.
We went to a greatly refurbished union station to ring in the new millennium. Otherwise, my family (whether my nuclear family while I was growing up or my own family as I was bringing them up as children) haven’t done much specifically for New Year’s Eve or the first day of the new year. However, we (my sons and I) played games a lot in general when we had a chance (more so myself with my kids than my husband including himself). I may simply not be differentiating one day in a year from many others.
Going to a comedy club is a great idea! Not this year, though.
We haven’t discussed what to do.
Perhaps organize a spades game or tournament?

Usually it is game night. Now that my daughter is on her own and about to be married it will be a quiet night I think. My boyfriend will have to work the next morning so it may just be me and the countdown in Animal Crossing… so a one player game night.
