Yesterday I posted about a way to add a drop cap to the opening paragraph of a post to give it a more professional look. And if you go to my blog and read the actual post from there, it does look kind of cool.
But I learned today that if you read my post with a drop cap in the WordPress Reader, it’s a whole different story.
My question to you, those who read my posts, is this. Do you typically read them in the WordPress Reader or do you go visit my blog and read them on the internet as they were formatted to look?

A bit of both. Sometimes from Reader and others from the email link. Not sure what the difference is. Just opened this post from the link and there’s no difference but I am using a PC

I read in notifications area… if I can’t I go to the web. We never had this problem until the block editor came in

When you click on the link in the email, does it take you to the website?

If it’s the original post, it takes me to the post on the website. If it’s a comment, sometimes it goes to the website, then I scroll down and click on “comments” to get to the comments section. Either way, once I get to a comment, I can scroll down and read all comments. The difference may depend on whose site I’m reading, in which case, that may reflect how the post or the comment was entered.

I use the Reader but when the option is given to visit the writers site I do that as I like to see posts the way that they were meant to look.

Good question. At the moment, I can’t comment and like posts when I’m not in WP reader. I’m logged in, but it just refuses to do what I want. So, at the mo, I access through WP reader only, but I do prefer to visit the blogs themselves.
And I find my current situation very frustrating. With the tech skills that begin and end with opening and saving Word documents, I’ve no idea how to fix it. Gah!!

Oh OK. There is obviously a Help/Contact button that I don’t know about then? 🤣

On my iPhone, using the WordPress iOS app, there is a “Help & Support” link where you can open a help ticket. But more than likely the WordPress happiness engineers will tell you it’s an issue with your browser, not a WordPress issue.

And that’s exactly what I’ve just been told Fandango. After a bit of huffing and puffing down a side-track after the happiness engineers (as you so aptly describe them) clearly didn’t read my request thoroughly! So it appears I now have to access my WP site through Chrome, even though I exclusively use Firefox. Grrr.

🙂 If I happen to encounter one of your blog posts via the WordPress Reader, I would press the “Visit” tab underneath it; which forwards me to the actual blog post.
I am one of those people who memorize URLs (I happen to know yours by heart).
Also, I prefer to visit your blog directly.

The vast majority of the time I use the Reader because I often cannot comment or like things in other places.

Posts of those I follow show up in my reader, but I almost always go visit the site rather than reading the post in the reader.

I read on my computer and I gotta tell ya, it doesn’t look good. It looked worse in email, but it looks only nominally better on the bigger screen. The fonts are all weird sizes and there are spaces all over the place where they ought not be. Do you use the block editor for this?

No, I used the WordPress app for iOS on my iPhone which still has a version of the classic editor. I do not use the block editor at all. I created the drop cap using HTML.

I use the reader. While it doesn’t capture all the fancy stuff on the website, I usually never have trouble commenting or accessing posts which sometimes happen when I read from the website. On the website, I have to log into WordPress to comment on each blog with can be a pain. So the reader is easier but plain.

I start off with your site then push a button to read it in my browser’s reader. The drop cap fucks things up – it considers the first char as separate from the rest of the word, but, you know, it’s no big deal. I can still see what the word is supposed to be.

I used to go to the reader, but blotched formatting has been an issue even before the block editor kicked in, so I switched and always go directly to everyone’s websites.

It’s usually the reader for me Fandango, but sometimes I visit the sites because I don’t get all of the post load or cannot like/comment.

I read from the reader… that way I read them in the order they were published by each writer without switching back and forth to other pages.
