Thursday Inspiration — Only the Lonely

For this week’s Thursday Inspiration prompt from Paula Light, the theme is “lonely.”

Many people associate the word “lonely” as being synonymous with the word “alone.” But I believe these words have very different meanings. Being alone is being by one’s self. Being lonely is feeling abandoned or sad due to isolation. So “alone” refers to a state of solitude, whereas “lonely” refers to an emotion.

With that out of the way, I present you with the classic “lonely” song by the late, great Roy Orbison.

Love that song. Love all his songs. Such a sad life, though.

I am reminded of a Robin Williams quote – “I used to think the worst thing in life was to end up all alone. It’s not. The worst thing in life is ending up with people who make you feel all alone.” That is true loneliness.
