Fandango’s Friday Flashback — September 11

Wouldn’t you like to expose your newer readers to some of you earlier posts that they might never have seen? Or remind your long term followers of posts that they might not remember? Each Friday I will publish a post I wrote on this exact date in a previous year.

How about you? Why don’t you reach back into your own archives and highlight a post that you wrote on this very date in a previous year? You can repost your Friday Flashback post on your blog and pingback to this post. Or you can just write a comment below with a link to the post you selected.

If you’ve been blogging for less than a year, go ahead and choose a post that you previously published on this day (the 11th) of any month within the past year and link to that post in a comment.

Business Travel Gets Worse and Worse

Business Travel I travel a lot for my job and business travel is getting to be a real drag. For example, can you believe that US Airways no longer offers complementary non-alcoholic beverages on its flights? A soda or bottled water is $2 and coffee or tea is $1.

Speaking of US Airways, on my flight back yesterday a woman was physically removed from the plane after getting into it with the flight attendant about the lack of overhead space for her luggage. I can understand her irritation. There was no room for my roll aboard and they wouldn’t (or couldn’t) “gate check” it, so they took it and put it with the rest of the checked baggage, meaning I’d have to pick it up at baggage claim. It was annoying because it would delay me getting to my car and driving home.

But apparently this woman was a bit more than annoyed and got into a serious finger-pointing diatribe with the flight attendant, who must have appealed to the pilot for help because he ordered that the woman be removed from the plane.

On a related note, I stayed at a hotel on this trip where the walls were so thin that every time someone in the adjoining room flushed the toilet, it was so loud it woke me up. The first time it happened, I got out of bed and rushed into the bathroom because I thought the toilet in my bathroom had started flushing on its own.

Unfortunately, whoever was in the room next to mine flushed quite a few times that night, causing me to have a very fitful sleep.

Ain’t business travel grand?

Nope. Not having to travel for work is NOT something I take for granted.
