It’s time for another Who Won the Week prompt. The idea behind Who Won the Week is for you to select who (or what) you think “won” this past week. Your selection can be anyone or anything — politicians, celebrities, athletes, authors, bloggers, your friends or family members, books, movies, TV shows, businesses, organizations, whatever.
I will be posting this prompt on Sunday mornings (my time). If you want to participate, write your own post designating who you think won the week and why you think they deserve your nod. Then link back to this post and tag you post with FWWTW.
It probably won’t surprise you that, political junkie that I am, I watched the Democratic National Convention (DNC) on TV this week. All four nights of it. This year’s DNC was very different than it’s ever been in the past. Due to COVID-19, the convention was virtual. There were no huge crowds of delegates, punctuating (and elongating) every speech with raucous applause. No balloons dropping from the rafters.
Instead, it was tailor made for the “small” screen (whether a TV like my 65 inch high def screen or the 6.5 inch screen of my iPhone 8 Plus). Most people who watch these conventions do so on their TVs at home, so why not offer interested viewers a show with punchy, well-edited videos and with interviews of all sorts of regular people? It was must-see TV. Which is why I’m designating this week’s Democratic National Convention as the Who Won the Week winner.
Sure, one could say that the convention was a four-day-long infomercial for the Democratic nominee Joe Biden, but in essence, that’s what political conventions are and what this coming week’s Republican National Convention will be for Donald Trump.
The DNC show was informative, entertaining, optimistic, poignant, forward looking, and, at times, funny. It presented a sharp contrast to the dark, divisive days in America since Trump took center stage. It will be interesting to see how the RNC will attempt to sell Trump’s abysmal failure as Commander-in-Chief to the American people.

I would have been disappointed if you had not picked the convention. Will you watch the republican convention? Oy. I might catch glimpses. I’m still very nervous that trump will win again.

The difference though is that Trump is a known quantity – the world has seen how he behaves for the last 4 years. Biden will be elected on promises. If I were in the US, my mind would have been made up years ago, and I wouldn’t watch either.

Biden is a known quantity. He was a U.S. Senator for many years and served as Obama’s Vice President for 8 years. And he is also a smart, decent, empathetic, caring human being.

Totally agree. Biden is not a no name! A good decent man who relates to many. He can “get his Irish up” when challenged by the likes of Trump and will take him on in the debates with ease.

I probably won’t watch it because I read that Trump will be speaking every night of the “convention” and he turns my stomach just to see him, much to less hear him speak.

The firefighters in California definitely won the week for me.

They’ve been working so hard to get the fires under control, but there are so many of them and the firefighters are fighting a losing battle.

I’ve been to 2 DNC conventions- my first one was memorable because I was there when unknown Sen. Barak Obama gave the keynote Speech and a few years later I got to go to Colorado and watch him accept the Presidential nomination. I’ve also watched them on tv.
Hands down being there was a lot more fun then watching it…until the 2020 convention.
I had fun watching it on TV which surprised me.
It was engaging and I loved seeing the delegates from other states do roll call and I liked seeing the delegates with their families and pets. And I liked the fireworks at the end because the balloon drop is sort of , man they are just all over the place and you can’t have fun popping them because once the convention is over you have to hustle yourself to the buses back to the hotel.
So I agree.

I thought the convention was brilliant. ☺️👍✊✊🏿✊🏽 They checked off all the boxes and produced a technological masterpiece. Trump will find it difficult to match its creativity. As much as I despise Trump and his family I will watch as much as I can stomach to compare. 🤮

I read that the Republican convention this week is being produced by Mark Burnett, producer of The Apprentice, The Voice, and other “reality TV” shows.
