Truthful Tuesday — The Apprentice

Truth

For his Truthful Tuesday prompt this week, PCGuy asks…

Is there something that you like or love now that you used to dislike, hate, or at the very least, have no opinion of before? Or perhaps there is something you now dislike, hate, or maybe even loathe that before you liked, loved, adored, or at least had no opinion of? In either case, or both cases if you so choose, what changed your mind?

I am ashamed to admit it, but when American reality television program, “The Apprentice,” starring Donald Trump, first aired on NBC in January 2004, I was a fan.

In that show, Donald Trump would judge the business skills of a group of contestants. Yes, I used to enjoy watching the hapless contestants vie for Trump’s approval and do his bidding in order to avoid getting fired. I even enjoyed Trump’s “You’re Fired” catch phrase.

Little did I know how far from “reality” that “reality television” show actually was. It was contrived to feed Donald Trump’s ego; to make him appear to be a competent business man and a good judge of talent. Sheesh, how naive I was.

So, to answer PCGuy’s question truthfully, I used to like Donald Trump when he hosted his reality show. Now I can’t think of anyone I loathe more than Donald Trump, who apparently believes being President of the United States is one big TV reality show and whose only goal is to get high ratings.

Truth be told, I agree. The first season worked well. When he added celebrities, it became a show of putting people down, and not so enjoyable. I think we can better do without the “reality” now!

What a pity Trump doesn’t listen to his own BS and fire himself like he did those on that show.

A heartfelt AMEN brother. Although I didn’t like the Apprentice (I loathe reality TV without question) at all!

I’m not a fan of reality TV either, but for some reason, I did enjoy this show, at least for the first two or three seasons. Then it just got tedious.

Does this mean that you gave him at least a tiny chance at the beginning of, or early in, his campaign to be President? At the merest thought, that is — until who he was came through?

I’ll go first. I wasn’t entirely against the thought. I had watched the show early on as well.

But, then someone had the video of Donald and Melania coming down the escalator. The whole thing made us all laugh. Then he spoke.

Of course, he had put out a casting call in order to pay actors to be there and cheer for him.

I found this on Wikipedia, when I was trying to find what kind of market share the show got:

The Apprentice was the breakout rookie hit of the 2003–04 U.S. television season and helped NBC at a time when the network’s two long-running successful comedies, Friends and Frasier, were ending their series’ runs. The Apprentice filled the void on Thursday nights as NBC held on to the tagline Must See TV, even though …

No, I didn’t vote for him and I never thought he would be a good president, but I also never thought he would be as awful as he is.

Oh… I didn’t wonder for even a second whether you voted for him. His character was clear enough already in 2015, not long into the campaign. But, at the very first, I gave him a couple listens with an open mind. After that, I kept listening so I would know what was happening — but it was all horrible.

I didn’t watch it a lot, only occasionally. It wasn’t a bad show. But when he began to run for president his true colors came out. I just don’t know how so many people misread him!
