#WDYS — All That Glitters is Not Gold

DE2C7620-9BFD-47B8-B268-5FD04337F424“What difference does it make, anyway?” Tina asked. “I don’t need your approval nor anyone else’s, for that matter. I don’t live my life to please you or at your behest.”

“It’s just that you’ve been acting so despondent lately, my dear,” Alec said. “I thought putting on some face paint and dressing up for the annual Harvest Festival dance tonight might lighten your spirits a bit. And it’s for a good, benevolent cause, too.”

“I don’t know,” Tina said. “I look ridiculous.”

“Actually, you look quite fetching, Tina,” Alec said. He turned off the overhead light, grabbed a handheld black light, turned it on, and aimed it toward her face. “Here, look at yourself in the mirror, my dear. See how glamorous you look with all of the glow paint and glitter.”

“This is too much,” Tina said. “The way you painted my face, I don’t know if I look more like a clown or some sort of malevolent spirit.” With that, Tina stood up, went into the bathroom, and washed the makeup off of her face.

Fandango’s Dog Days of August #13

Fandango’s Dog Days of AugustDo you need a muse to get your creative juices flowing during these hot, sultry days of August? Try a dose of Fandango’s Dog Days of August prompt.

At 6:00 am Pacific time each day this month, I will be posting a new theme. Today’s theme is “your blogging space.” You’re a blogger. You compose posts for your blog. Where do you do your writing? Do you have a dedicated room? Do you craft your posts from the kitchen table? The living room sofa? While sitting on the toilet? Share a story, a poem, a photo, a drawing, some music, or whatever you wish to share about your blogging space.

If you wish to participate, please write your post, use the tag #FDDA, and create a pingback to this post or manually add your link in the comments.

And, of course, take some time to read the other responses to this prompt. See how other bloggers are coping with the dog days of August.

FOWC with Fandango — Despondent

FOWCWelcome to August 13, 2020 and to Fandango’s One-Word Challenge (aka, FOWC). It’s designed to fill the void after WordPress bailed on its daily one-word prompt.

I will be posting each day’s word just after midnight Pacific Time (US).

Today’s word is “despondent.”

Write a post using that word. It can be prose, poetry, fiction, non-fiction. It can be any length. It can be just a picture or a drawing if you want. No holds barred, so to speak.

Once you are done, tag your post with #FOWC and create a pingback to this post if you are on WordPress. Please check to confirm that your pingback is there. If not, please manually add your link in the comments.

And be sure to read the posts of other bloggers who respond to this prompt. You will marvel at their creativity.
