The meeting of the town elders about the best way to deal with the town’s growing homeless problem was growing quite contentious.
The youngest member of the Council of Elders jumped up and said he had a solution that would enable the town to triumph over homelessness. “All we need to do,” he said excitedly, “is to increase the amount of money we spend on housing for the homeless.”
The sounds of snickering from most members of the Council of Elders went through the room. One of the long-term members of the council leaned over and whispered to the old man sitting on his right. “Ah, the memories I have of the time when we didn’t allow a court jester to have a seat on our council.”
“Yes, those were the days,” the other man whispered back.
