America Torn Apart

It’s been a while since I created a multiple prompt post, but today’s one word prompts, “justice,” “context,” “respect,” “yarn,” “curfew,” and “city” just seemed to fit into the context of what is going on in America these days.

Most of last week and continuing this week as well, city after city has imposed curfews in order to get those demonstrating over the brutal murder of George Floyd by Minneapolis police last Monday off the streets. The people who are protesting are screaming for justice for African Americans and other minorities at the hands of white policemen.

The demonstrations were mostly peaceful until the president, spinning unfounded yarns about left wing extremists, like Antifa, created chaos. And then, showing no respect for the very American right to assemble, to demonstrate, and to protest, Trump called upon the police to get tough on the protestors. As if they needed that encouragement.

1069BE08-336B-4525-8169-D7291FD1C6E3He called up the military in the nation’s capital, and ordered them to use of tear gas and rubber bullets against Americans demonstrating outside the White House so that he could safely walk across the street to stand in front of a church holding up a bible for a photo op.

He tweeted out words designed to fan the flames, and threatened to attack the demonstrators with “vicious dogs” and “ominous weapons.” He told governors to “dominate” the protesters, and posted, “when the looting starts, the shooting starts.”

And by the way, in case you forgot, the U.S. now has almost 1.9 millions coronavirus cases and more than 108,000 deaths.

This is so unfortunate that I don’t even have words to say what I feel about this buffoon and his style of governance

I know. I’m upset, I’m depressed, and I’m so angry I can hardly see straight.

Not everything is his fault to start with (virus, murder), but he certainly has a “talent” for making it a million times worse!

That’s true. He loves to fan the flames of discontent and divisiveness.

President Donald Trump on Monday reportedly used federal police to tear-gas Christian faith leaders, along with hundreds of peaceful protesters gathered to demand an end to police brutality against Black Americans.

Clergy were passing out water and snacks to protesters in front of St. John’s Church, Lafayette Square, an Episcopal parish in Washington, D.C., throughout the afternoon ― before law enforcement officials in riot gear reportedly fired tear gas and flash-bangs to disperse the crowd so that Trump could walk to the church for a photo-op. Lafayette Square is a park that lies directly north of the White House.

Rev. Gini Gerbasi, rector of a different St. John’s Episcopal Church in the city, told HuffPost that she and seminarian Julia Joyce Domenick were tear-gassed and driven off of church property by police.

… Gerbasi said[,] “It’s grotesque and offensive and sacrilegious.”

She said she was acting out her religious beliefs by serving protesters at the church and that her religious freedom was violated when she was forced off church property by tear gas.

    ………

The protest was peaceful until law enforcement officials rushed the crowd, according to Domenick.
“No warning…Screaming, flash grenades, and tear gas came at us. People ran as fast as they could around the corner of the church. …

    ………..

Law enforcement began expelling people from the park before the 7 p.m. curfew imposed by D.C.’s mayor. …

Gerbasi said she worked alongside the Black Lives Matter medical team to help people clear out their eyes from the tear gas. Then, she said, police started to physically force people off the church property.

“They were pushing us off of church property when we were literally wiping away people’s tears,” Gerbasi said. “That was a moment when I thought, ‘I cannot believe this is happening.’”

Last night, I forget in what city, there was a person leading a (contrarian) group in the crowd who was clashing (verbally) with a black lives matter leader (who wanted to cooperate with the mayor). When the black leader came over to speak to a MSNBC reporter (live), the contrarian (anti-black-lives-matter) leader (dressed in all black) came over with a megaphone (and a non-protective mask hiding all of her face and not her mouth) to drown out anything the young man (BLM leader) said.

This is a different story, but similar.

A Tampa television reporter was broadcasting live from protests last weekend when two young men in Hawaiian shirts moved in front of the camera and began chanting the name of an obscure white nationalist group, drowning out protesters …

Now the most recent thing I heard he did (haven’t had time to fact check it yet though and Facebook was the source) was retweet a post from another politician that said the only good democrat is a dead democrat. There is that war call again.
