When I first saw the theme words Jim Adams picked out — couple, together, and us — for today’s Song Lyric Sunday, two songs came to mind, “Happy Together” by the Turtles and “Just the Two of Us” by Bill Withers. I decided to go with the Bill Withers song, in honor of Withers, who passed away earlier this year.
“Just the Two of Us” was written by Bill Withers, Grover Washington, Jr., William Salter, and Ralph MacDonald, and recorded by both Grover Washington Jr. and Bill Withers. It was released in February 1981. The song was a collaboration between jazz saxophone player Grover Washington, Jr. and singer Bill Withers. Washington wrote the music for the song with his partner Bill Salter before Withers added lyrics.
Washington and Withers first met when Withers went in to record his vocals. They were rarely together when they recorded the song, and they never got to know each other very well.
The song expresses a deep connection between a couple. No matter what happens, they can get through it together.
Here are the lyrics to the song.
I see the crystal raindrops fall
And see the beauty of it all
Is when the sun comes shining through
To make those rainbows in my mind
When I think of you some time
And I want to spend some time with you
Just the two of us
We can make it if we try
Just the two of us
Just the two of us
Building castles in the sky
Just the two of us
You and I
We look for love, no time for tears
Wasted water’s all that is
And it don’t make no flowers grow
Good things might come to those who wait
Not to those who wait too late
We got to go for all we know
I hear the crystal raindrops fall
On the window down the hall
And it becomes the morning dew
Darling, when the morning comes
And I see the morning sun
I want to be the one with you
Just the two of us
We can make it if we try
Just the two of us, just
(Just the two of us)
Just the two of us
Building big castles way up high
Just the two of us
You and I
(Just the two of us)
(We can make it, just the two of us)
(Just the two of us)
And for honorable mention, there’s this:
Thank you, I really enjoyed listening to both of them. I love all genres of music. But I do love the music from the 60s in the 70s. Thank you again much enjoyed

I’m so glad you enjoyed the songs. My grown up kids tell me that my taste in music stopped evolving in the mid 70s. They’re right, and I’m proud of it.

Lyrics for the above song:
Let’s stay together
I, I’m I’m so in love with you
Whatever you want to do
Is all right with me
Cause you make me feel so brand new
And I want to spend my life with you
Let me say that since, baby, since we’ve been together
Loving you forever
Is what I need
Let me, be the one you come running to
I’ll never be untrue
Oh baby
Let’s, let’s stay together (‘gether)
Lovin’ you whether, whether
Times are good or bad, happy or sad
Oh, oh, oh, oh, yeah
Whether times are good or bad, happy or sad
Why, why some people break up
Then turn around and make up
I just can’t see
You’d never do that to me (would you, baby)
Staying…
Lyrics for this song:
Love and happiness, yeah
Something that can make you do wrong, make you do right
Love
Love and happiness
But wait a minute
Something’s going wrong
Someone’s on the phone
Three o’clock in the morning
Talkin’ about how she can make it right, yeah
Well, happiness is when, you really feel good with somebody
But nothing wrong with being in love with someone, yeah
Oh, baby, love and happiness
Love and happiness
Love and happiness (love and happiness) oh
I have to say
Love and happiness (love and happiness)
Love and happiness (love and happiness)
You be good to me
I’ll be good to you
We’ll be together, yeah
We’ll see each other
Walk away with victory, yeah oh baby
Love and happiness (love and happiness)
Love and happiness (love and happiness)
Hey, hey, hey, hey
Make you do right, love’ll make you do wrong
Make you come home early
Make you stay out all night long
The power of love
Wait a minute
Let me tell you
Oh the power
Power of love
Power of love, power
Make you do right, love’ll make you do wrong
Ha yeah
(Love and happiness, love and happiness)
Say love
(Love and happiness, love and happiness)
Make you want to dance
Love and happiness
Love is, wait a minute, love is
Yeah, walkin’ together, yeah, talkin’ together
Say it again, say it together, yeah
Say wanna moans
….
Talkin’ ’bout the power
