This was originally posted on April 10th 2008 on my old blog. I chose this as my flashback post because, due to the COVID-19 pandemic and stay-at-home orders on many states, a lot of people are working from home and I thought this might be relevant. Until I retired at the end of 2016, I had worked from home since 2008 and it did bring about some changes in my lifestyle.
Homework Hygiene
I’m not sure I should admit this, but I’ve found that working from home has changed one aspect of my life. I now shower and wash my hair every other day, for the most part. And shaving? Don’t ask. I sometimes go for a whole week without touching razor to skin.
So far I don’t think my altered hygiene habits have been offensive to anyone. I ask my wife to give me a good sniff on my non-shower days and, so far, she’s told me I pass the sniff test. But isn’t it interesting that this shift in what used to be a nearly religiously observed daily process has turned into an every-other-day activity? Well, it’s interesting to me, anyway.
At the same time, I’m spending more time at my computer (and, thus, “at work”) than I would otherwise be if I had to deal with the daily shower and the road time commuting back and forth to work. And think of how much water I’m saving, not to mention the cost of heating up all that shower water I used to use on a daily basis.
Hey, maybe I should go to showering once every three days. Or once a week! Yeah, that’s the ticket!

Hahaha. I find exactly that too. I am often up at 6:30 but, if I don’t have to go out, will reliably sit in my dressing gown until 1 or 2pm. Normally, the prompt is when I just feel dirty – like it is now time to have water touch my skin.

Ha ha ha if you started to shower only once a week you’d definitely have no problem with social distancing! 🙂

Now that I have to rely on my rainwater tanks I tend to shower every other day unless I feel grubby or sweaty. Doing my bit for the planet :-).

Sometimes I skip a day now. Occasionally I skipped Sundays when I had no plans, but now it’s all weekends, so…

How very timely!
I had to remind myself to wear earrings once in a while because the piercings were starting to close up. Etc, etc, etc.

I don’t think my hygiene habits changed but my eating habits did. Probably for the better as they always had treats at the office where I worked. Pizza days, cookie drives, etc.

Great advice! I’ll keep this in mind to do at the 6 month mark. I’ve only began blogging mid February, of this year so…..all my readers are new readers LOL!
