Birds of a feather flock together
Each day during the month of February, at around 6 am Pacific Time, I will be posting an old adage, an old saying, a familiar expression that we’ve all heard and have probably used during our lifetimes. Your assignment, should you choose to accept it, will be to post a story, a poem, an image, an interpretation of what the expression means to you, or to do whatever it is that you want to do based upon the daily adage.

Simon nudged the man’s arm in the bar. The man turned toward him with a stern look on his face. Simon, smiling, said, “Birds of a feather flock together.”
The man wiped off his arm and turned back around.
Simon slumped in his chair. He nursed his drink for a while. Geez, it could be so hard to meet people.

Docker wiped off his arm. He shook his head and got the bartender’s attention. “Who’s that weirdo at the corner table there?”
“Oh him? That’s Simon. Yeah, he’s pretty awkward but he’s okay.”
“According to who? Haha.”
“Ah, the Navy thinks so at least.”
“Oh?”
“Served twenty years. Real stand-up guy. Just never knew how to talk to people.”
Docker set his beer down.

Simon placed the cash down for his check and got up to leave. Someone nudged his arm. He turned around. The guy at the bar?
“Yes?”
“I’m Docker.”
“I’m Simon.”
They shook hands.
Docker said, “I got a few buddies I hang out with on the weekends. We play poker. I mean, if you’ll forgive us all being Army men.”
Simon waved a hand. “Anyone who served our country is somebody I want to know.”
Docker gave him the address and the time to meet on Saturday. “The flock will be waiting, brother.”

What a nice story. It seems so rare these days for anyone to go out of his or her way to be kind to another.
