Share Your World — The Simple Things

Share Your WorldMonday is when Melanie sends out her latest Share Your World prompt, and today is no exception. So here we go.

When was the last time you tried something new?

Hmm. The other night my wife and I went out to dinner with our daughter and her significant other. Our daughter is a vegetarian and for an appetizer she ordered goat cheesecake with beets and candied walnuts and the whole thing was drizzled in some sort of green sauce. I’m not normally a fan of goat cheese, walnuts, or beets, but she insisted that I taste it and it was actually pretty good. That said, I liked my barbecue chicken wings appetizer better.

If you were forced to eliminate every physical possession from your life with the exception of what could fit into a single backpack, what would you put in it?

Toothpaste and a toothbrush, a box of tissues, a roll of toilet paper, some clean underwear and socks, a pair of jeans, a flannel shirt, my sneakers, my Patagonia jacket, my iPhone with a charger, a writing pad, a pen, a small, portable folding chair, and some Think! protein bars.E525D96C-8A7F-498B-961D-3586F58F8D5C

What simple fact do you wish more people understood?

What a moron and a traitor to America Donald Trump is. And that Mitch McConnell and his fellow Republicans in Congress, who not only tolerate Donald Trump, but enable him, are also traitors. And this is a fact, not an opinion.

What food item do you go through fastest in your house?

Bananas. My wife and I each have a sliced banana in the morning with our breakfast cereals. So we have to replenish them at least twice weekly. Coffee would be a close second, but does coffee count as “food”?

Thanks Fandango for finding a few moments to “Share Your World!” It’s appreciated! And yes, ‘coffee’ would qualify as food – according to many, many people. I enjoy a banana too, but if I purchase more than two at a go, I end up either making banana bread (rarely) or tossing them because they’ve gone ‘off’. I’m eating one right now as a matter of fact. Nom nom.. I agree fully with you about your ‘simple fact’. It makes me so angry that I’ve had to monitor my exposure to any news about that po’ faced asshole. 😡 I liked your backpack content too. At the recent ‘wake’ for my aunt, they served goats cheese and spinach on brioche (?) bread. Small bites portion. I had maybe seven. It was pretty tasty….

I think your minimalistic survival kit is perfect.

The most recent “something new” wasn’t major. I sought out a place specifically for “dim sum’ (rather than Chinese in general). I liked the crispy eggplant with meat in between layers the best. (Eggplant is a comfort food to me.)

    Good answers for your backpack!

Saturday night, I went to a restaurant connected to a concert hall I frequent. I had to sit at the bar as I hadn’t made a reservation. So, I couldn’t order off the full menu. I had herbed goat cheese, which I like, with an olive spread and two kinds of bread/crackers. (I was at the bar alone, as the person I went with volunteers at some concerts.) I had all I wanted at the time, but we went to a sports bar afterward. I ordered a buffalo chicken dip, with lots of chicken in it (served with fresh-made corn chips), and crispy Brussels sprouts and cauliflower. I hadn’t realized how hungry I still was — which was obvious when I began eating.

    It is a fact; yes.

I would say I go through fruits and nuts the fastest at home… besides coffee and honey (for which I also purchase large amounts of organic cream and milk).

Coffee 100% counts as food. I speak with authority seeing as I know what I feel like when I’ve been forced to give it up. I, too, went with a minimalist survival kit and am now traumatized I forgot to include TP. Guess I’d be “liberating” it from fast food places and gas stations…
