Fandango’s Friday Flashback — October 4

Wouldn’t you like to expose your newer readers to some of you earlier posts that they might never have seen? Or remind your long term followers of posts that they might not remember?

Each Friday I will publish a post I wrote on this exact date in a previous year.

How about you? Why don’t you reach back into your own archives and highlight a post that you wrote on this very date in a previous year? You can repost your Friday Flashback post on your blog and pingback to this post. Or you can just write a comment below with a link to the post you selected.

If you’ve been blogging for less than a year, go ahead and choose a post that you previously published on this day (the 4th) of any month within the past year and link to that post in a comment.

This was originally posted on October 4, 2014 in my old blog.

Honey, Have You Seen My Keys?

honey have you seen my keysCharlie was looking everywhere he could think of in the condo, but he just couldn’t find them.

“Where did I put those goddam keys? Honey, did you see my car keys? I’m running late. Cindy, I can’t find my goddam car keys! Cindy? Cindy? Do you hear me?”

Cindy, who was in the master bathroom in the far end of the condo, called out to Charlie, “Did you check your jacket pockets?”

“Of course I checked my jacket pockets,” Charlie yelled back. “That’s the first place I looked.”

“Look again.”

“No! I told you. I already looked there. They’re not in my jacket pockets.”

“Look again,” she repeated. “Indulge me.”

“Fine.” Charlie went to the closet, pulled open the door, and checked every pocket in his two jackets. “Nope, they’re not in my jackets,” he yelled back. “See, I told you they weren’t in my jacket pockets.”

Cindy, rather perturbed, as she, too, was running late and was still putting on her face, trudged from the master bathroom in the back of the condo to the doorway in the front. She walked up to Charlie’s windbreaker, which was hanging on the coat rack by the front door, stuck her hand in the right hand pocket, and pulled out a key chain with Charlie’s car keys on it. “What the fuck, Charlie!” she said, highly annoyed.

“Oh, that jacket. Why the hell didn’t you say that jacket?”

Thanks Fandango. Here is a link to one of mine from this date.

I doubt it matters, either that, or I do it wrong every week 🙂 Today, I went to the old post, hit the “Reblog” button, and added a short commentary (including a hyperlink to this post). That created a pingback here. Last week, I found the post I wanted but felt it needed a bit more explanation. So I wrote a brand new post, again put links to here, to create the pingback, and to my original post.

Thanks for participating, Kristian. I remember you flashback post from when you first posted it. Nice to re-read it. With my memory, reading a post from a year ago (even some of my own) is like reading it for the first time! 😏

Do you know a simple way to search the previous posts by month and day?

I just scroll through them on my dashboard, but then I only have a few years. Does the wp-admin dashboard offer more, I wonder?

I go to my history of published posts by month, click on the month, and scroll down until I find the specific date. It’s not simple, but that’s how I do it. As to my posts from my old, now defunct blog, I have them archived on my laptop in a Word doc, so I search that for older posts from before this blog.

Your story is funny—and all too true (though sometimes, admittedly, with a gender reversal).

In response to your gracious invitation, I offer a link to one of my rather wonky posts—another long one. Interestingly, though it received modest attention a year ago, with heightened concerns about climate change, I find it’s being read much more frequently now. Here’s the link:

Why You and I Need to Care About Phytoplankton–and What We Can Do About Them

    Thanks again, Fandango!

Thanks for the flashback. Interesting. I commented on the original post. I hope I didn’t sound too cynical.

I responded on the post. No, your cynicism is clearly warranted at this point. Hopefully, the children—awakened worldwide and mad as hell at us for despoiling the earth—will lead us to a more hopeful place.

And thank you for both the opportunity to repost and your supportive words.

I now have 6, really on anything that I could conceivably lose. Purse, wallet, tablet… Ironically, not keys. The trackers are Bluetooth, so pair with my phone. And, if I lose my phone, they each have a 2-way ping.

Thank you for this prompt, Fandango! I went to check my post from last year, and re-discovered that October 4th is National Taco Day! So here it is:

    National Taco Day

    Happy National Taco Day!

Mouahahahahahaha… Been there, done that. I’ve come to think that Chéri loses things just to make me look for them 😛

Thanks for playing Friday Flashback. I enjoyed your post and would have commented on it there, but posting a comment on Blogger if you don’t have a Google account is a mystery I have yet to solve.

I had to look through all the Octobers since I started blogging to find one from this date. Apparently I write on Oct 3rd and even 5th, but never on 4th 😀 Finally I found one from 2018. Phew. Here it is

This could have been my story except that I let the one who misplaced the key find it himself! Ha.

I know that scenario well. What really bothers me though is not finding things for my boyfriend, but him always asking me what his computer passwords are. I can barely remember mine, how am I supposed to know his? 🤔
