Truth in Jeopardy

“Damn, Jeff, I would have thought it unlikely that you’d be interested in that,” Carolyn said.

“Are you kidding me?” Jeff said. “Who wouldn’t be interested in the huge schism between the President and the truth?”

“I know,” Carolyn said, “but you’ve always seemed so apolitical.”

“Well, I’ve dabbled a little in political stuff to some extent,” Jeff said, “but that moron in the White House instigated this assault on truth with his constant lying, the latest of which is his lie about the path of the hurricane. He even went so far as to alter an official National Weather Service map with his Sharpie. I’m on the side of accuracy instead of his deceitful ways and his bullshit. I didn’t think I could ever have imagined that the actions and words of the head of our government would put the very notion of truth in jeopardy.”

Per 18 U.S. Code 2074, which addresses false weather reports: “Whoever knowingly issues or publishes any counterfeit weather forecast or warning of weather conditions falsely representing such forecast or warning to have been issued or published by the Weather Bureau, United States Signal Service, or other branch of the Government service, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than ninety days, or both.”

I wonder why that guy sat in the room with him while he presented the supposed “update.” That guy (while technically “acting”) is supposed to be concerned about homeland security.

    Also, curiously…

On March 7, 2006, 43rd President George W. Bush signed H.R. 3199 as Pub.L. 109–177, which renewed the Patriot Act of 2001 and amended the Presidential Succession Act of 1947 to include the newly created Presidential Cabinet position of Secretary of Homeland Security in the line of succession after the previously authorized Secretary of Veterans Affairs (§ 503) (which are listed and designated in the order that their departments were created).
