One-Liner Wednesday — The Unfortunate Truth

“We are not going to solve America’s gun problems in half an hour, but we’ll probably do more than Congress.”

Host of “The Daily Show,” Trevor Noah

Trevor Noah, a comedian from South Africa and host of Comedy Central’s “The Daily Show with Trevor Noah, has a nightly (Monday through Thursday nights) 30 minute political comedy talk show. The line above is how he opened his show this past Monday night in the aftermath of the heinous mass shootings in El Paso, Texas and Dayton, Ohio over the weekend.

It was intended to be a joke, but, sadly, there is a lot of truth in what he said.

Written for this week’s One-Liner Wednesday prompt from Linda G. Hill.

I’m so saddened (and angry) about these latest shooting and the fact that Congress and Trump do nothing about it. It’s horrible. I saw a Twitter post that said something like sending thoughts and prayers without taking action is grievous sin and I totally agree.

An astute observation. Sometimes these things bring a smile to my face before I remember how insane it all is.

I have tried to stay away from the news the last few days… has congress done anything? I am guessing not, sadly.

Me too. Trevor gets to the heart of the matter, doesn’t he?
