Fandango’s Friday Flashback — August 2

Wouldn’t you like to expose your newer readers to some of you earlier posts that they might never have seen? Or remind your long term followers of posts that they might not remember?

Each Friday I will publish a post I wrote on this exact date in a previous year. I’ve had this blog for two years, so I have only 2017 and 2018 to draw from.

How about you? Why don’t you reach back into your own archives and highlight a post that you wrote on this very date in a previous year? You can repost your Friday Flashback post on your blog and pingback to this post. Or you can just write a comment below with a link to the post you selected.

If you’ve been blogging for less than a year, go ahead and choose a post that you previously published on this day (the 26th) of any month within the past year and link to that post in a comment.

It would be great if everyone who reads this post would scroll down to the comments and check out the posts that others provide links to.

I originally published this short post on August 2, 2014 in a now defunct blog.

Proper Placement

B7BE1C0B-5BFB-4092-A7D9-6FA218992BF6My daughter, knowing how fussy — or, as I like to say, fastidious — I am about grammar, punctuation, language, and usage, sent me an email in which she wrote, “I thought you’d get a kick out of this sentence someone posted on his blog.”

I did get a kick out of it. In fact, it made me laugh so hard when I read it that I thought I’d share it with all of you.

“I did read the post about your mom, and your tattoo. I, coincidentally, have a tattoo about my father who passed away on my wrist.”

And to think there are those who believe that the proper placement of commas is unimportant.

Just spurred on by this, I found an old blog post that I wrote a year, ago. It’s about a storm in UK politics so I won’t bore you with the post itself, the interesting thing about it is that it was quite an established storm even when I wrote, and is still rumbling on even today.

Something I never wrote about, though – it is my daughter’s 20th birthday today. We’re not so close nowadays but time can never dim that experience. She was delivered by Caesarian and the bery first thing she did was to pee on me! Funnily enough my wife’s memories are pretty vivid too 🙂

Ha, ha, just noticed my errant punctuation. Appropriate given your original post, no?

yes I quite often hit the key next to the one I want on the keyboard – I think the US keyboard is the same as the UK there. A lot of the time I see it straight away and can correct it. For my email, I use a spellchecker too, though I don’t get that filling out web forms in my browser, Firefox. I’m thinking of using Chrome again for that reason, although I had different issues with Chrome. The really annoying thing is when I mistype but get a valid word, just the wrong word. Not only does that fool a spellchecker but the reader sees something which they might think just doesn’t make sense, a opposed to a finger-slip.

It’s kind-of embarrasing more than anything, but because of what happened, things are what they are and I don’t get too stressed about it. I must admit that my gut feel is that I like good spelling and punctuation, but if there’s one serious thing I should take from this, its that there can be valid reasons for mistypes, so I do not judge.

It doesn’t help that as I write this, one of the cats has draped herself over the keyboard and is having a nap. That can’t be comfortable!

I have a cat that likes to rub his face up against my iPhone when I’m using it, which is quite often. He apparently wants me to pay attention to him rather than whatever it is that I’m doing on my iPhone.

You gotta love ’em. I allow our’s to sit next to me, but not on me, while I’m using my laptop. But she encroaches, exactly the same as your’s, just enough to be telling me that *she* should take priority over whatever I’m typing. We have a boy cat as well but once he’s had his breakfast (it is 11am here) he crashes either in a wardrobe or on a bed. We won’t see him ’til he’s hungry again.

Ha! My son once peed on me when I was changing his diaper.

Fandango, what’s the difference between a literalist and a kleptomaniac?

    The literalist takes things literally.

    The kleptomaniac takes things, literally.

    😀

Yay, I did publish on August 2 2018! (pingback: Refried Beans – The Stable Staple)

Your flashback post was a lot of fun! I still remember a grammar lesson in middle school, illustrated with a story about four sisters who wrote individual letters to one possible suitor; all four letters had exactly the same words, but the punctuation made each sound like the guy should choose the girl who penned it.

We’re going to need more and more good laughs if we are going to survive the insanity that surrounds us.

My link says August 3rd, but I updated it to say the 2nd, the right date. It’s late and I’m tired or at least that is the excuse I am using. 🙂
