Give and Take

800CAA62-ECCD-420A-B0EE-3111E875B9CFPerry opened up the negotiation with an offer he was sure would be positively received. So he was shocked at its swift rejection. “Okay,” Perry said, “what is wrong with my initial offer? What has to change?”

“Everything,” Tony said. “I made my requirements perfectly clear and you’ve apparently chosen to totally ignore them.”

Trying to hide his frustration, Perry said, “Fine, Tony, spill it. What will it take to reach an accommodation?”

“All it will take is for you to shape up and give me what I told you I wanted,” Tony said.

“Don’t you get that good negotiations are all about give and take?” an exasperated Perry said.

“Yeah, Dad, I get it,” Tony said. “You want to give me an Etch-A-Sketch for my birthday and the only thing that I will take is an iPad.”

I used to love my Etch-A-Sketch when I was a kid. But that was WAY before even the concept of a device like an iPad existed. The only electronic device I coveted back then was a transistor radio.

Nice ending! I loved Etch-A-Sketch, but my artistic talent never produced much of anything.
