Nope. Just an important public service announcement.

I have seen several bloggers who are showing it. Are they actually trying to raise money for this organisation? I am confused.

Ha! No, it’s a joke, political satire.

I’m not familiar with Spitting Image.

When I was growing up there was a TV show which exhibited all of the politicians and other famous folk as puppets, but with exaggerated features – like caricatures. It was political satire/comedy. I was too young for it. really. Well, to be honest, even if it was on TV now, I don’t think I would watch it – politics is not something I concern myself with.

I understand that, but far too many people don’t concern themselves with politics. But politics does affect people’s everyday lives, indirectly and, in some cases, directly. Ignorance and apathy is why the US is cursed with Donald Trump and the UK is in the whole Brexit fiasco.

I have my own personal reasons. It is not that I am indifferent to what is going on in the world. For me it is important for me to show respect by obeying laws and paying taxes etc.

I have been working with strictly political neutral charities for twenty years. We do not get drawn in to politics.

I just crack on with what I love doing which makes such a difference to individuals who have been helped to recover from disasters or abuse or wars…families, communities – and all the training and skills that are passed on to others so help them…it’s something that has been very close to my heart.

I really don’t envy those in government, it is a hard choice and clearly now more than ever it is harder to please everyone. The figures on the world stage are changing and bringing all sorts of twists to the story of politics.

Thanks, Mel, for taking the time to explain. My comment may have been too harsh. I’m just frustrated by what’s going on these days and there was no need for me to strike out at you. You didn’t owe me an explanation, but I appreciate your making the effort to give one.

Please don’t worry. I did not think you were striking out at me at all. I know you are grieved by the state of things at the moment.

For a long time it has felt as if the work I am part of is going in and patching up the damage made by political and commercial decisions. But we have to be so careful in what we say, because we need to be allowed into areas to help.

Do those who do not concern themselves with politics, vote or not?
    Should they?

In my opinion, everyone who is eligible to vote should vote, even the dumb asses.
